for pointing out that apparently direct Baraag file links work just fine even without an account. I've replied to various comments in the original post with the direct links as well as edited the description of the post to include them as well. Hopefully that solves the problem until Baraag federates again and is easily viewable without an account again.

I don't post human related content very often (Like once or twice every couple years lol), but when I've done so in the past I've used Baraag and never had an issue. Well, when I posted
the other day, it seems quite a few of you couldn't access it. I wasn't really aware of any of the changes to Baraag in terms of access, so I didn't think anything of it and just continued as I'd always had.
I don't particularly want to lock my content under lock and key, but I'm not sure where else I can post this content at this moment. I do not want to use my Dropbox and risk any issues with too much traffic to that, nor do I want to risk my Imgur account getting banned. I do not have a Hiccears, and I find that many artists don't want their work up on Booru's. So I'm looking for suggestions. Anybody have any good ideas that don't risk take down due to TOS nor going through the effort of creating and maintaining yet another full new gallery somewhere like Hiccears?
I really don't want to create and maintain an entirely new gallery outside of Inkbunny, especially for content I rarely ever commission or draw. Baraag is pretty casual (like Twitter once was), so it feels more like a place I can just put things to share without being too involved.

While Baraag is unfederated an account is required to view posts. They were federated a couple days ago but have since had to defederate again for some reason (I think performance). So once they are federated again links should work again.
I've heard Aethy as an alternative but I'm not quite sure wht the rules are there. Most people who have a Baraag also created an Aethy account (I think that's the spelling). It's another mastadon istance.

I love Baraag as there are so many artists posting awesome work of all kinds without censorship, but performance has never particularly been one of their strong points. =\ But that is kinda an issue with Mastodon being decentralized as a whole, wild inconsistency of performance between instances. Hopefully they fix this issue and re-federates soon and my current dilemma just becomes a moot point.

Due to a few issues Baraag have it's currently unfederated and everyone need an account to access anything posted. HOWEVER, you can post a link to the image directly and people can see it without an account like this: https://media.baraag.net/media_attachments/files/109/72...

I did not think that would actually work that easily. As an artist I'm relieved, as a web developer I'm a bit concerned that content that shouldn't be viewable without an account normally via their webapp is easily viewed if you know the exact URL of the content. Ah well, I shall go ahead and update the post accordingly and fix this issue for now! Thanks for the easy workaround!

Yeah it's great for artists but concerning if the server is meant to be completely private and it's that easy to share something, at least it solves the issue for now without the need to make a bunch of new accounts somewhere.

Yeah, though I'm aware quite a few artists don't want their work posted on completely open platforms like Booru's, so I'd generally prefer to avoid them for commissioned work. If it were just my own artwork I'd have done that ages ago cus I don't particularly care where my work gets reposted. XD

Alternatively, you can just use discord. I've noticed that even if an image is posted somewhere private, even a DM, you can link directly to it with no problem.

I'd rather not use Discord for the same reason I'd prefer to avoid Imgur. I don't want to have an account ban from a TOS violation. Even moreso with Discord as while I prefer Telegram, I have some friends who only use Discord and I really don't want to have to track all of them back down again.
