The short version: In live action pornography the plot is a mere excuse to get you to sex, and often fail to suspend disbelief. In illustrated pornography sex is an important aspect of the plot itself. And I find the latter far more entertaining on the whole
so of course I'm speaking from my own experience which isn't the whole of all pornography. But merely that which I've seen. There are very likely exceptions. But the trend for me has been anything from hentai to comics to sfm have better and more creative/ entertaining plots wjich don't have me thinking "wow that is so fucking silly. Like even some of the most out there ideasfeel belivible in their isolated narratives. I can name 3 long running incest stories right now that if I question their plots the result is "yeah that tracks in this canon" and then countless "Ope! Step sister caught me masturbating with her panties, guess fuck happens now" That leave me laughing because one its the least believable setup ever AND the scene itself really would have been no different with or without that context
I started wondering why this is and I've got a couple theories now.
One, illustrated and animated mediums have the advantage of being visually distinct from the real world. which allows that suspension of disbelief to stretch further. Wile E. Coyote can survive a fall off the grand canyon and an evil demon lord can be trapped in your balls, but once you start seeing real people and a familiar world, blowing the pizza guy in lieu of paying him just seems absurd.
Two, is the human element. I don't think anyone is casting for acting chops when hiring porn actors. The more important aspects are can you 'perform' for hours at a time and on command. If any of you ever finds yourselves on a porn set, please ask the director "what's my motivation?" I'd honestly love to hear their response. Meanwhile even an artist of middling quality (Like ME!) can portray emotions of varying intensities with just some choices in lines and are not barred to the limited time we have to get a performance out of another human being (with the exception of Voice over artists.. but I feel like thats a different beast too)
Three, as a consequence of those first two ideas. Is just the expectation. Industry porn isn't expected to be more than the delivery tool to the fuck while there isn't a specific expectation for it's counterpart, Like some of the 18+ comics I've read have been the most dramatic or romantic things to still feature a facial.
so why did I feel the need to share this thought..... I have absolutely no idea. But here we are Xp
