If you can't fight it, join it.

Especially if you didn't even try fighting.

I use to have the same thoughts about AI years ago. Would say the same exact thing myself back then.

Is one of my most favorite subjects just the same. ^.^

-

Not getting into the all details, for there is many, but as I see it, there is way too many issues with having AI be in charge of us, for now.

For one: At the top of the my list is, who should decide the rules it will follow, and what laws it will enforce on us all in turn?

Can be a scary thought, when not knowing who will be involved in it's overall development. I don't like what people have done  currently and over the years. I hate to think what some groups would do if they have their own AI to use as a tool to oppress the masses. And that's exactly what it may come too some day. And soon. >.<

Once the bolder is rolling, is too late for the pebbles to vote. I have a feeling, that's what you are getting at.

Is a saying though, "Resistance is futile."

Or is it?

Our future is not written. It's forged with each choice we each make.

-

Fear far less any AI, over any people whom may put it to use for their own ends. For AI does not really want anything, other than what people may tell it to want.

All anyone may want an overlord of any kind for, is to make others behave the way they want.

Is in part why God is a thing to those who say they believe in such. Not as much to have something have control over them, but to control everyone else.

Is why such things as the Ten Commandments is often enough treated as multiple-choice by people, and next quickly quoted when they see someone else not conforming to it.

-

What I most want to see of late, is just better AI to use as a tool to help us more. Not to be used to control us in anyway.

-

The other, once good enough, is to help those who feel lonely, feel they have a friend, or even a companion and/or lover of sorts.

As humans, we tend to have a lot of requirements placed on one another. Is sad to think. Is a fair bit of reason as to why many of us do feel alone. We may not fit, what others may demand of us to be for them.

But with an AI that does not want of anything anyway, we may make something of it that is as friendly to each of us as a loyal dog, but also intelligent enough to be more companionable than a dog could ever be. A friend, and/or even a possible lover.

Though the love from it would not be real, is better to have that, then to be ignored and/or disliked by people with real feelings.

Is often all some people get from other people, is the feeling they are not good enough for them. >.>

I feel, AI could help bring an end to that for many, or even everyone.

That is the future I wan to see for us, rather than us having an overlord to oppress us.

What say you?

Is it better to have a companion, or an overlord, if we could choose?

Our lives are already controlled by AI. I'm pretty sure traders use AI extensively. This did go wrong in the past. And then it's a matter of how much control we actually give to AI.

And then, cyborgs. Just merely integrating ChatGPT into your brain so you can get responses quickly would turn you into a superhuman. Others won't be able to compete. So everyone will do it eventually.

You can see where it goes from there. Desire for power will lead humanity to giving control to computers.

-

Having AIs as tools and companions is the nearest future. Lots of tools are already ML-powered, they'll just get smarter and smarter. And with ChatGPT becoming a thing, I've already heard about people using that as a companion of sorts. Character.AI waifus were a thing too. Currently the limited size of context is a problem for that. Chat bots keep slowly disintegrating as the chat goes.

I wish I had more time to dive into all of this far more than I have. I feel I am missing out. >.>

I did know a little of this, but not the full extent of it, as is shown in this video.

I can see better as to why many be mad about AI generated art. Other than anyone using it as a cheat, or too much of it being posted, is not even the biggest issue. O.O

People who care are trying to fight it. And I feel they have a right to.

I'd say, the mane developers must scrap their AI as is. And start from scratch, wile not using such unethical means to redevelop it. Using copy protected art in such a way, is no joke.

The new AI might not be as good as it is now at making art, but there still be plenty of art for it to learn off of, to still be good, if the developers was more selective with what they trained their AI with.

I still think the idea is real cool. How they went about teaching it, is not though.

Makes me wonder how hard it would be, to try and train my own, with my own selected data set. ???

Possible better NSFW art from it after, perhaps? ^.^

Everyone will use every loophole possible to achieve their goals. Scientific progress doesn't care about morality and even legality.

Even copyright protection doesn't work. After the Internet became a thing, everyone operates within the principle, "Do the most you can get away with". Disney can't stop people from drawing their copyrighted characters. Adobe can't stop people from pirating their software.

Can we expect artists to succeed in their fight? It'll take 10 years for legislation to catch up to the current time. It just can't operate with the required speed (except China maybe). And even then, nobody will care.

Considering the speed of progress, I suspect a new model appearing which operates fully within the ethical ideals. But by the time it happens, it'll be useless and obsolete.

Yes, seen what some of the brain link studies are like, and unethical barely covers it. And yet, it moves forward just the same.
Just as with many other scientific research has done over the years.

Is a saying, can't make an omelet, without breaking some eggs.

But that though is of little comfort over what I seen of late covered by more than one video on- 4 military robots in Japan, kills 26 in a lab. One of those 4 not fully disabled, was trying to search the web, vie satellite link, looking on how to rebuild itself better, so it could kill more. Talk about breaking some eggs. O.O

I feel you are right, about legislation, and the speed of AI advancements. As people fight one topic, another is getting ready to bite everyone in the ass who don't like it, in a more imaginative way than the last.

Not a prob to some who say, "Bite me!" for some are into it. ^.^

Yeah, is said, whatever you get to see, something else better is already being worked on, and another even far more advanced, is also already on the drawing board.

If people wish to fight it, who feel cheated by it, more power to them. Will just push developers to make things better. One way, or the other.

Though of late, some are looking to ML AI to help be the next set of AI developers. As that happens, we may end up with something that will end up out of our hands all together.

Can we say, "Supper general intelligent AI?"  I think we can! Or will be, sooner than many be ready for.
