It's.... ok... not fantastic. not the movie of the year, not the next Zootopia.
it's just ok. I liked it. but it's got some serious narrative problems.
without spoiling i'll just say. the moral is pretty much a copy of Zootopia with
the same exact message about how society stereotypes you as one thing and
it's hard to fight against it but you gotta try anyway.
the plot itself doesn't have any real Huge stakes which kinda makes the final
act more silly then anything. literally half of the main characters, 3 of em are
almost entirely pointless to the plot and don't really have any character development
at all. you could remove them and nothing would change.
Pretty much all of the heavy plot stuff involving plans from characters and villains
are so loose and make little sense and 100% rely on just good faith that an event
was supposed to play out the way they thought about it in their head which while
yes it always ends up working. reality wise there is no way anyone could have the
amount of foresight these characters have to predict how someone is gonna act and do
something so they could do something else. It's this area where the writing is absolutely weak.
that being said, the characters that DO get character development, which are about 3 of em.
are indeed likeable and fun and have good arks. the animation quality is really good. the action
is loud dumb but fun. All in All. it's a harmless movie but it desperately feels like it needed
some rewrites. a lot of scenes and sections don't work and or should have been fleshed out.
so much potential and it just doesn't reach it the way i would have hoped. i know it sounds like
i'm overly negative here. It's still a fun and entertaining movie enough if for nothing else but the eye
candy alone, You know who i mean. I'd recommend giving it a watch, but don't expect anything
amazing. it's a predictable plot that we've seen many times over with the same character plot threads
with a liar being revealed, friendships being temporarily ruined but coming together in the end.
the obvious villain is obvious. etc etc.
still a fun ride... i'd watch it again for free.
