Okaaay, here we go... First off, I've been a Disney fan since I was a tiny thing. And as you know, I've been writing fanfiction about Mickey and Minnie since 2008. So there's a few things I'm going to discuss here.
Minnie's outfit:
Honestly, I like it. I think it's cool. I can say that the black polka dots are a little distracting and do make her pantsuit look a little like pajamas, but apart from that, I'm fine with the suit. I do love the style of it, and I'm always up for seeing Minnie rocking new fashion because she's always been a fashionable character. I think the pantsuit does look good on her. And while I'm not a huge fan of the dots, the outfit as a whole looks great, and gets a thumbs up from me.
Minnie in a dress and pants:
Here's where the stupid starts. Minnie hasn't always worn a dress. I'm a Disney fan, duh, and I've seen this girl mouse wear tons of different outfits; dresses, skirts, pants, jeans, shorts, bikinis, leggings, pajamas, space suits, diving suits... Yes, she HAS wore pants before. I could give you several examples. Minnie isn't limited to dresses. Like a real person, she can wear a dress, skirt OR pants if she wants to. Yes, making the outfit red may have made it look a bit more to her color, but why should she be limited to wearing red and polka dots all the time?
Remember in Mouse Works and House of Mouse cartoons when she wore a blue skirt and blue bow? She wore a blue coat and blue pants in the Mickey's Mountain cartoon, and she wore pants in Daisy Bothers Minnie. She wore jeans in the Gamecube games Disney Sports Skateboarding, Football, Motocross and Snowboarding, and the new Minnie and Daisy Spy Power comics have her wearing pants. Women have worn dress pants as far back as the 70's. I know women in my life that wear pants, skirts and dresses. Minnie shouldn't be limited to dresses and skirts all the time. Like any female, she can rock them all.
Minnie and femininity:
One comment I happened to read from someone made a mention that the pantsuit was a move toward a "modern way of thinking" with making her look less feminine and more gender ambiguous.
Here's the thing. Minnie has always been a strong female character. She doesn't have to wear a dress or skirt to be feminine, nor does wearing pants make her a tomboy. Minnie is a very diverse character because she can wear a dress and attend a formal affair, or she can put on overalls and work around her house. It's realistic and lets her character have more depth. I also know women that can wear a dress but will happily mow their own yard in pants. This is what I've always loved about Minnie as a character, there is so much to her.
I've seen her wearing overalls and working in her garden, as well as working on her car. She's actually solved cases and beat the Phantom Blot herself, along with stopping crooks by herself, with Mickey and with Daisy. Minnie has kicked guys in the shin and stomach before, and I've seen her playing video games next to Mickey, but she's as much a girly girl as she has been. That's the beauty of her character; there's a lot to her. She's a great character, and a pantsuit doesn't take away from that.
The outfit Minnie wears is for the event, NOT a permanent thing. It's not like that's her new outfit for good! How many times have you put on an outfit and wore it to something, maybe to never wear it again. I have.
In closing, here's something for you. How I write will never be effected by the modern world. I write how I've been writing and that's how I'm going to keep writing. If I want to have Mickey rescue Minnie in a story, I will do it. When I have Minnie wear pants, and she DOES in some of my stories, I will do it. If I want to have the mice do a duet of Baby, It's Cold Outside, I darn well will. I write with my old school way of thinking and I'm not changing that. So you can rest assured!
Now back to things. Lata'!
