You Commissioned a Shitty Artist (My Take)

"OMG you commissioned who? The Guy/Girl who did this thing and that other thing in the past back then 1000 years ago, but yet I feel the need to bring it up because it's still relevant in my opinion Which is why I don't support them but you commissioned them o.o you clearly support their actions by giving them money"

Hold the entire fuck up and pump the fucking breaks, Why is it that commissioning someone automatically means you support anything they've ever done. Money =/= Support. Sometimes people see art they like out of a person and irreguardless of their part they want THAT art style. Now I know you're thinking "but why would you commissions this shitty person when there are so many other actually cool people in the fandom with similar art styles. Similar, but are their commissions ever open? Everyone is always "Commissions Closed" or "Patreon Only" seldom are people's commissions open unless you're a starving artist. Which in that case yes you should be supported. Mass advertised even so more people can commission you. but these artists are hidden so low down and deep in the fandom finding support at your art level may be hard.

Which is why if we as commissioners can't find you, we commission people we can find. and if you're open and your art style is up to par, expect people to commission you. Problem is if you're a shitty person, the person who commission you now takes flak for that. I'll use myself as an example. 6 months ago I got a dakimakura of a Kobold, not Koko but of Gidgit a character created by the Infamous JasonaFex. Why is he infamous, I don't fucking know... but that didn't stop people from calling me a piece of shit for buying this piece of art from him. Let me tell you something, it's my money and I do what I want with it, Do I tell you what to do when you want a $50,000+ Fursuit? No, all I wanted was art this in no way shape or form means I support any of the quote unquote shitty behavior that he has done in the past. Which again because I'm out of the loop with my own issues am still not 100% aware of

So can we please stop doing the (money = support) bullshit? Just because you want art and a particular artist is available SHOULD NOT equal supporting them and their behavior. I could careless about how most people are as people as long as I get what I want and that's the honest truth. Although there are some exceptions and some artists I do care/give a shit about on a personal level but everyone else is expendable in a sense. I don't hate or dislike them I just only care about the work they put out that I commission for. Now if that bites me in the ass and they take my money and do no work then that one is on me and as a result I should know to never trust this person with my $$ ever again. But besides that I don't support artists or their behavior otherwise I'd be on Patreon and I'm not. So once again lasrt time I say it money =/= support

The whole logic people used to say you support cause money is generally used as a weapon so that said person can be isolated, a way of convincing people to leave them with nothing to punish them. Most of the time, it's not really warranted hence cancel culture.

Regardless I certainly agree with you :3

i 100% agree that someone shouldn't catch flak for getting a com from this/that artist.
if you chose to com an artist, thats your business, no one else's for what ever reason you have.

that being said, i personally would never com an artist i knowingly is doing something that i dont agree with.
like, i will NEVER eat Chick-fil-A as they directly support anti-gay laws.

Artists can get flack too for creating art for clients that have a shady past.  If I knew about a client's shady past, would I take their commission?  Nope.  But, if I didn't know about their past, how would I be to blame?  And if I was desperate and starving and needed money badly for food and took on a client's commission despite knowing their shady past, what is it for anyone else to judge?

So in short, I agree man.  Nobody should be called out for taking a commission/taking out a commision from a shitty person.
