Drove through 14 states...

...In three weeks. Drove seventeen hours the first day... Camped out and stayed in hotels along the way. Hit up two zoos, Bourbon Street, Rendezvous in Memphis, managed to find a cool fossil in the river at Dinosaur Valley that I turned over to the park, enjoyed fireworks shot over a base I trained at in Wichita Falls, hit up Schitterbahn for two days.... Among other things... It was a wild ride.

Helped my GF take care of funeral stuff with her brother and help prep for his wedding, happening without us next week, sadly.

I'mma sleep now. I drove twelve hours yesterday and ten today.

That sounds like a crapload of fun! I drove cross country once before, but did not stop at so many places. I did stop at this cool museum that was shaped like a bridge in Nevada. Bought a cool Minnetonka folding hat. Still have it 18 years later!

It was an absolute blast, even with the series of near disastrous failings that happened with everything from the vehicle rental to the weather. We almost wound up kenneling her dog and flying to and from only one place. Got to really educate my GF's teenager on how people work and what flirting actually is since he's never really gotten to travel far from home and see the diverse range of interactions someone can have out in the world. Taught my GF better defensive and offensive driving maneuvers too. She's not scared of big trucks anymore!

Sucks that it was a funeral that brought the trip about but, it's great that it could be loaded with happy memories for the two I moved in the big loop so far from home.

Ya I have a thing about Semi's. When I was a kid we got hit by one when it came into our lane. Thankfully nobody was hurt except the car. But to this day I can't be beside one in a car. I always hang back until I can pass them in one go. I remember being in the back seat and looking over at the semi with the turn signal on thinking 'Mom knows how to drive. everything is okay' Then it got closer and I was like 'mom knows all..she knows it is there' then it hit us with the front tire lug nuts and shoved us off the road before it veered back into it's lane. Apparently we were in its blind spot and the drivers had no idea we were there. They did stop and come running back to see if we were okay. and they gave me and my sister the smoothies they had just bought from Wendie's so that was nice. They also stayed with us a little past the time the police and everything was over to make sure my mom was okay to continue driving as the car was still drivable, it just had a weird dound dent on the side.
