It's in Your Blood Background

Hello friends,

I've recently started posting It's in Your Blood, an attempt at a more longform story. The Zeli and Sam David stories will have continuity, but they're not set up to tell one long narrative. They're more like horny sitcoms.

Although no one has asked for it, and I don't even know if people are enjoying what I've posted so far, I wanted to indulge my own ego and give you some quick facts about the story.

The title is from an Abandoned Pools song, "Blood." While the lyrics relate very little to the story, its refrain: "I know, I know, it's in your blood," stuck with me. The idea of something being "in your blood" sounds inescapable to me, a lot like the concept of fate. Your blood is part of you, and if you carry something in it, metaphorically or literally, you're stuck with it.

My aim for the story is that each chapter will involve something erotic. As a full story, this may have catastrophic consequences on the pacing, but as I'm releasing chapters gradually, I think it gives a reason to read each chapter. I don't know, I'm pretty new to erotic fiction to begin with, and I've never written anything in this method; one chapter at a time. I usually have everything planned out, not just a vague idea of how things progress and how they end. So this is an experiment for me!

The story is supposed to elicit a feeling of angst (as well as arousal, of course). In a way, it's a bit of a screwed up coming of age for a directionless adult. Hopefully it doesn't come across as entirely high school, but the confused melancholy is intentional.

Finally, the blood mage/self-harm direction does indeed come from my experiences with self-harm. My current support network disables me from indulging (thankfully), but the temptation remains. So, in a way, this story is an outlet in more ways than one. I want to note that I'm not attempting to glorify or romanticize the concept. It's a dark splotch on the minds of those who it affects, myself included, and it should never be looked at as something positive.

That's it! I hope this was of some interest, and I hope that anyone who reads this will look forward to more from the series.

Thanks for reading!
