My job is - 99% of the time - rather crappy. Too many projects, too little time, no other programmers there to help ease the burden. Maybe I'll win the Lotto Max draw tomorrow night - that'd be nice.
But - every so often, there is some good. They have been very generous with Christmas bonuses and gifts, which is certainly appreciated. This year, I received an iPad.
I hadn't really felt any need to get one myself, but since it was given to me... I've enjoyed making use of it.
I've been fantasizing about doing (bad) artwork on a (stupidly expensive) Wacom Cintiq, but couldn't justify the cost, especially given how infrequently I even attempt to draw something. But with the iPad... the thought occurred to me tonight that I should at least explore the possibility of using it as a drawing tool.
The main problem with the iPad for art is of course, the capacitive touch-screen. I don't think my fat fingers can be precise enough, and besides, they'd largely be blocking my view of what I'm working on. And if I had a stylus like the made-for-iPad Pogo, my palm resting on the screen while I draw would mess things up too.
The solution to the above was so obvious I hadn't even considered it; until I came across a video online (which turned out to be made by :iconlatinvixen:) which showed the trick. Wear a fingerless glove. {facepalm}.
So - I'm going to see if I can find a Pogo stylus - or maybe the one by Griffin - plus a decent glove, and give some sketching on it a try. I found that Sketchbook Pro was on sale for just $2.99 too, so decided to grab that... seemed to be getting decent reviews.
I still think the styluses I've seen for the iPad look a bit "thick" compared to the nice point of the Wacom pens, but they're certainly better than using a finger. We'll see how it goes, anyway.
I have some ideas for some pics, and really should try to draw again. My hand's healed enough by now, at least.
I just need to tear myself away from Pac-Man:Championship Edition DX... (currently ranked #4 in the world!) 8)
