I don’t think they try (Patreon for 11-22-20)

by
What am I saying, I know they don’t even try.

Sorry for missing last week, shouldn’t be surprising anymore.

So, Monday before last, after I do my delivery, they had no load for me to pick up, which was surprising, Mondays are usually easy to find loads in my experience. I found a truckstop, parked and spent the night there. The next morning, at 8am, I sent my usual ready message. If I’ll be driving, it tells them I’m hitting the road, if I don’t have a load, it tells them I’m ready for one.

By 11am I still haven’t heard anything so I send a reminder and five minutes later I get my load, which requires me to drive 150KM, for a pickup at 1pm. On paper it’s not bad, although 30 minutes leeway isn’t great, but the entire route if on secondary highways driving through one town after the other.

I made it with 5 minutes to spare, and while I’m being loaded I notice the pickup up was scheduled for between 9am and 1pm. Which means that they had the load in the system at least since 9am, probably before that. It left me wondering what they would have done if I hadn’t sent the reminder.

The rest of that week when okay. Had a load that sent me west to Edmonton, with a reload already setup, so that was nice, except for the snow storm as I entered the city, then having frozen brake lines the next morning, but those were surprisingly simple to resolve, even if it was my first time having that happen to me. Poured alcohol in the lines and it melted the ice right out.

It did delay my delivery, but no one complained, and I got to meet someone from a chat server I’m on while at the customer. I can’t remember the last time THAT happened.

Then I had to drive to the shipper.

Anyone who has been reading these for a while knows that I dislike driving in the dark, driving when it snows, and driving on secondary highways. So you can imagine how I felt when the 3 conditions hit at the same time.

And the next day, I had to deal with the same after being loaded, but fortunately not for as long since I was out of the mountains not too long after he got dark.

If nothing changes, after the delivery tomorrow, there is already a reload assigned to me, and it is going to Quebec. Normally I’d complain about that, but I’m due for a cancer checkup, so the timing is good. once I have the timeframes for when I’ll be in Quebec, I’ll call my surgeon’s office to schedule the appointment.

And that’s it for now, so I’ll see you on the next one.
