Religion and leadership from kid me

I was a kid in 4th grade, and our teacher said, "Ask me everything."
When my turn came around, I asked, "Is god real?" He answered everyone's silly question in the class, but mine got ignored.
Another turn around. So I asked, "Who were the first people to ever exist? We had to have come from somewhere?" He stuttered, then ignored me again.

I guess I was not really born into a religious family, so I had no idea what religion was growing up. In a few of our studies, I came upon the word, "religion." I was confused. I did not know what that meant. So I asked. "What is religion?"
"Well, what do you believe in?" the teacher asked.
"You mean like Santa Clause?"
I got no straight answer. I was so confused.

Unrelated, I was also thinking what kid me thought of leadership, and why people follow people. What drives them to lead, and follow? but it was not even that. it was more like, how can people be lead, why do they need to be told what to do? but even then, it was not quite that.
I'm unsure of how I had put it, but I was playing starcraft, and the Zerg really spoke to me. it said, that the Overmind was needed by the hive to guide it's future. it was a physical, and mental contact this brain had. and I could not quite equate that to the human leadership. A person was a person being told to do by it's government leaders. Why did we need leaders? I guess I did not understand at the time.

I guess I wanted to post something since I have not in a while.

Given your questions, I might guess he thought you were intentionally being an agitator, since those questions are the weak-points in many religions.

And simply put, it's biology.
People do not have as much free-will as they'd like to think.
Bad experiences burn-in fear & hesitation, which can limit learning & consideration.
Many people need to feel like they are part of a powerful tribe. This was likely bred-in long ago because it helped insure they defended each other.
However it's being a problem now, far too easy to turn it into the old "them or us" ultimatum.. people need to realize this is an instinctual flaw that is being used to harm people.

Personally, I don't agree with the saying "A million people can't be wrong." A million people can certainly be wrong, we see it in the mob effect all the time. Anytime I see a product with that on there, I go out of my way to ignore it.
