Douglas Adams was a major inspiration for my writing and sense of humour.
Interestingly enough, the advice for avoiding the Bugblatter (if you can't see it; it can't see you) is used by paleontologists and anatomists for determining the range of vision for animals they only have skulls for. Basically, if you can't see where the eyeball would have been in real life, you would be outside of the animal's range of vision. Using this method, scientists have found that humans almost have the largest range of depth perception among mammals with only cats having more.
