What connects Lion King to Hyper?

by
Taste cannot really be debated, but here's what I'm wondering. Why is it that so much of all the Lion King stuff I'm seing posted on FA, here, and SoFurry .... why is it hyper?

With hyper I mean super muscled, oversized cocks and balls.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. Personally, I see nothing, absolutely nothing, nada, null, zip in the entire Universe that the Lion King exists in, that would seem to get anyone interested in both at the same time, thus creating these pictures.

Again - not that there's anything wrong with that. A lot of people I watch draw these pictures - exclusively. Or a whole lot. I'm watching for two reasons. The first being that I watch anything that is even remotely Lion King related. Even those stories that have the lions wearing pants! Riding cars! Smoking cigarettes! (Why even bother with TLK Characters in such a universe is just beyond me but,.... but!) ... there's nothing wrong with that.
The second reason.... I collect it all. I don't have to like it all, but I collect everything.

And just so we're clear: I love even some of the most ridiculous hyper stuff, or stories with Lion King characters in SPACE if they come up. People are people, and people are silly like that.

I'm just way too vanilla, that's my flaw, I guess. I love them like they are in the movie, or as closely as possible. Feral, you know. Four legged. With no outrageous muscle growth, and no, they're not wearing panties, gloves, hats,or even diapers. ;) Let's hope there's nothing wrong with that either.

So yeah, here they are ... lots of them! Sometimes, I even just look at the screen, shake my head and wonder why that is. What connects Lion King and hyper muscles, hyper phalluses and hyper -everything- art? Is this just a coincidence? I know that there are plenty of people who also draw the Lion King characters anthro instead of non anthro. That is something I've just never cared much for and could shrug it off, easily. There are some exceptions but they look sexy in the movie, thank you very much ;).

I'm always the first or second kitty to defend a kink. And I mean ANY kink. People have the right to to enjoy whatever the hell phantasy/art/drawings/stories they want. Hyper. Anthro. Gore. Crapping on each other, you name it. Even if it's all that TOGETHER. Really anything is fine. I just wonder why it seems like that especially Lion King characters get that a lot. Or is that just selective and I haven't been looking at the big picture there? Every time I check for new art I seem to get a whole bunch of TLK stuff, but to be honest, for every ... 30th hyper, anthro, gore, and killing TLK pic I see, I find  - with a whole lot of luck - one picture where the cast still somewhat closely resembles what they look like in the movie. The kind I really love the most, those I personally hold very dear :).

If I picture search (on FA or here) for, say, Krystal yiff art, or something, she almost always looks like Nintendo made her out to be, only in lots of different art styles. While it's a lot more common for the TLK cast (in yiffy situations as adult, not cub, typically on FA) to come out in shapes and sizes like the incredible Hulk on steroids? :)

That's a question I've been asking myself for a while. I know there's no real answer to that.

And again, just so we're really really clear: Everyone I'm watching, hyper or not, crap or not, anthro or not, canon or not, you all draw stuff I've liked or like all the time. For example, kumbartha, you do draw awesome stuff that I wouldn't want to miss, even if the majority isn't for me. :) I'm good with it, really. I'm sorta a fan of all of you, even if I have a strong preference for the "true to the origins..." kinda stuff. :) Please don't feel offended or something like that. After all is said and done, this is just an innocent question I wanted to put up there.

I've seen some hyper TLK but I never would have thought of it as "pervasive", who knows? :-/

My theory would be that people watch lions for a dominant aspect, and maybe hyper tends to share the dominant theme? I dunno hyper well enough to strongly assert that last statement but it's my best uneducated guess.

Yes, dominance seems to almost always play a big part. And body worshiping, generally. That goes well with a sleek and well built body like that of a lion. Just the amount of it is somewhat perplexing. Never was a big fan of, for example, furronikas stuff, personally I considered those to be more silly than appealing, because it was basically unchanged Lion King style heads (and very well drawn ones!) on (personally speaking) ugly bodies. As if a surgeon attached their heads to something completely different and out of place.

Thanks for your comment here :).

I haven't seen it as much to be honest. But it could be because I don't browse a lot on here as much as i used to. But Hyper is just a preference and lion king just might be a theme for it right now. One person sees it, another person gets inspired and builds on it, so on. I'm not a fan of it myself, I to am a little vanilla. Probably why I prefer writing but, I figure to each there own, and pass on anything i don't fancy. :P

That's the way I do it, too. Just this time, I got kinda curious and posted this sorta broad question about it just to be sure if it's just me, or other people noticing some increase. Looks like it's just me after all. :) Whatever, it's no reason for concern. There a place for everything. And I've seen amazing art in the anthro-TLK universe as well :). Thanks for you thoughts on this.

Of all the animals, the lion is the strongest, the biggest, the most masculine, at least according to popular tradition. He's the king of the jungle. And something I've noticed is that people who like it big, usually _really_ like it big. Perhaps the fandom you've seen is, unlike you and unlike me, admiring the leonine characteristics of the characters, more than the characters themselves. I've seen the movies and I love them; I love the characters and their relationships. I love the uneasy crush between Simba and Nala that blossoms into full and true romantic love. But some people, perhaps, haven't seen the movie, or don't care for it as much.

I guess what I'm suggesting is that some people just like lions, and that's why TLK is popular. Because it's got lions.

You know, I never thought of it quite this way. Always had a gazillion reasons to love TLK myself, but of course you could be right and to many fans, it's the fact that it was Lions that did the magic trick!

I just wish the artists would draw them more feral again, I mean even those artists who usually never do. It's like I started to draw Sonic porn, but I drew him as a real hedgehog. Same thing, only reversed. People would really, really wonder. Hedgehog lovers would start doing the same thing tho', cause Hedgehogs are damn cute. And it might cause a little bewilderment in other fans, like with me, now, about TLK.

Yes. Switching from feral to anthro has always confused me. (In fact, anthro in general confuses me.) But since all movie characters are feral, and quite a few furry characters are anthro, it's natural to want to cross between them. I guess. (I'm sort of new to this fandom.)

I do feel quite welcome. I've actually been casually browsing the fandom for a while, skimming the surface of furry artwork, but now I've found its source. And now that I'm here, I can say that I've been admiring your commissions for quite some time. :)
