Until this morning, I was working at a company that made caps for milk jugs and 5-gallon water bottles.
At first it looked like the coronavirus wouldn't have much of an effect to the company; we were already following SQF practices (Safe, Quality Food), so everything was being cleaned and sanitized daily, all we had to add was the masks and social distancing (when possible).
Then the orders started dropping off: The water bottling plants were having trouble getting the bottles back for refilling, so they needed fewer caps.
Then the Plastics Engineer was "promoted" to be both the Plastics Engineer AND the Production Manager. One person, filling two roles, for one paycheck.
Today they decided to Eliminate the Automation Engineer position, as the newer "Vision Sensors" were supposedly easier to work with that the Machine Vision Cameras.
So, to make long story short, (too late), I have joined the ranks of the Unemployed.
