Digimon is back, baby!
I'm sure plenty of people know this but for those who don't know, let me tell you about what's going on. I've recently found out that the first original Digimon cartoon that ran from 1999 all the way till the year 2000 or later, is being rebooted.
I was nine years old when the first Digimon cartoon was new and going strong. I found out they did at least seven Digimon cartoon shows through out the years that the franchise series has been running. I've only seen the first four but the rest of them after the fourth series I haven't seen. My only guess to why I didn't see the rest of each cartoon series they made of Digimon after the fourth was over was probably because they started to air them on a channel I didn't have which in my case is understandable.
I did find out through out the years that they've done more with the first original Digimon series. We all know the first two cartoon series of Digimon had the first original characters but the second series did have some new characters added to the list. With the first Digimon cartoon series, even though they did two series out of it, I see that the first Digimon movie also featured the characters from the first and second original Digimon cartoon but the characters from the first original series probably had more attention and more focus on them since you know how people are when it comes to original films and television shows, they mostly like the first that started it all with the first original set of characters.
Than they did another television series sequel to the first and second Digimon series that was known by the name "Digimon Adventure tri" but it was said that one was a six part film series that again, featured the characters from the first original cartoon series of Digimon along with some more new characters. But it was said that six part film series was taking place some time after the second Digimon cartoon. It did show the original characters are growing up and battling evil once again but they knew that one day they will have to part ways with their Digimon partners forever, which probably had a touching ending to that series.
Than finally, they actually did an anime film based off the first two original Digimon cartoons but again, it also featured the characters from the first and second cartoon series of Digimon but I can tell most people mainly focused their attention on the first group of characters as well as the second group of characters the joined their group, it was set as a sequel to the first two original Digimon cartoons like it shows which sadly, the film served as the finale of the original Digimon cartoon story, It was shown to be set some time after the "Digimon Adventure tri" series. From what I found out, it was about where Tai and his friends are reaching adulthood, but they're informed that the partnership with their Digimon will come to an end soon and they will be separated forever, since the DigiDestined kids are no longer kids anymore yet they find out that another Digimon appears and robs all DigiDestineds of their consciousness. They find out that despite using their powers will shorten the little time they have together, the kids and their Digimon will battle evil one last time to save the world. Which probably had an emotional yet touching ending. Every good story has to come to end one day.
I did find out that the finale of the series did have some shorts to it.
But now that I found out they're doing a reboot of the first original Digimon cartoon show. I feel like my nine year old self again. I felt like singing and dancing, wanted to do cartwheels, flips and wanted to scream "Digimon is back, yeah baby!"
From what I found out about this reboot is just like every reboot to an old cartoon show, they'll have it take place in the year it airs. From what little information they've told us about it is this. It takes place in the year 2020 and there's been a series of cyber-attacks across Tokyo where are the result of catastrophic events in another world within the internet, also known as the Digital World, where the Digimon are from. The eight original kid characters from the first cartoon are getting ready for summer camp but are transported to the Digital World where they acquire Digivices and they have Digimon partners like before. They're learning they have been chosen to stop the unknown threats to their worlds. Which they'll probably have some changes added to the reboot, such as the time and date the story takes place in, the technology they use will be the technology we use today, possible references that will be used that are up to date today, possible new characters and parts of the Digital World's location setting and appearance may actually have some changes in there but that's just me theorizing on what changes they may have in there.
The English dub hasn't been made yet. The Japanese dub is the only part of it that is available which is available for Japanese viewers at this time. They did say that they want to make an English dub out of it soon but they don't know when they'll be able to do that since anime cartoons always air in Japan first and the English dub comes later on, they don't know when the English dub will happen and the Japanese dub is having to air it's episodes at separate times as due to the Coronavirus pandemic so airing the episodes are being delayed because of the pandemic. But they're still able to try and air the episodes at specific times in Japan but they're having to do it at separate times like every new episode is every two weeks or every two weeks or so will have two or more new episodes airing.
They want to do an English dub soon but they don't know when they'll be able to make it happen. So far, it's only available in Japan for Japanese viewers. They've aired three episodes so far, but a fourth one will air soon, but if us Americans can see them, we can only see them through streaming with English subtitles. So that's the best we got in viewing them till the English dub is ready for us.
So far, finding out what they've been doing with the first and second original Dgimon series ( mostly the first original series ) has got me thinking that as they kept on going with more adaptations to the first original series of Digimon, it's got me thinking that they've made an incredible cartoon series that's part of our childhoods and now, part of our adulthood now. Finding out how the original first two Digimon series ended with the series finale has left me shedding a few tears as the kid characters show they've all grown up and are no longer children and they'd have to go their separate ways with their Digimon partners forever as they battle evil one last time. It's reminding me that I'm not a kid no more either and that even though my childhood like others exists in memories within our own minds, we know that our time as kids has become separate from our lives forever like how the characters in the series finale of Digimon went through something similar like us. Sure, we may still feel like kids on the inside but we know technically, we're no longer kids anymore. But I'm saying that to make a point that we're sort of like the kids from the original Digimon cartoon series and we've went through something like they've been through.
For most of us who are fans of the Digimon cartoon series. When the first Digimon cartoon started, most of us were between the ages of five and fifteen, give or take my best guess. Now that they've done more with the original series, we were probably all in our twenties at the time. Now that they're rebooting the first original Digimon cartoon, we're all probably between the ages of being in our mid to late twenties to our early to mid thirties, some of us are probably pushing thirty years old now. My 30th birthday is not too far away by now so I'm somewhere in the same age range of the fans and viewers of one of our beloved favorite cartoon shows we love as a kid and still love now.
So I'm just telling everyone about this in case there's others out there who don't know about the other past adaptations of the first two original cartoon series of Digimon and in case they don't know about the reboot they're making of the first original Digimon cartoon they're making right now. My inner nine year old self feels like he's back when I found out about this reboot. Anyone feeling excited, happy and nostalgic as I am right now?
