With all that is going on...

I don't like to get political, and if you don't want to bother with it, don't, but I want to make myself clear. It's going to be a bit of a rant, and deal in absolutes.

Black lives matter. All lives, in fact, matter, but we've definitely proven, as a society, than for some reason we can't get that through our thick skulls. Gay lives matter. Queer lives matter. Straight lives matter. Trans lives matter. And if you, for one moment, can't get it through your thick skull that people EVERYWHERE are people, and deserve to be treated as such, no matter their orientation, background, color of their skin, disabilities, WHATEVER... If you are willing to listen, to hear, to grow, to think, and can be swayed, even if we don't agree on this subject, or want to put caveats on this, then we can talk. If you believe otherwise and refuse to change your mind, I refuse to deal with you. Take your fun elsewhere.

Martin Luther King had a dream, and one day it will overtake this nightmare we live in. We have to fight to make that happen, or else we are not going to survive all that divides us. And even if I, personally, don't suffer from these problems... to be silent is to be complicit.

Live. Be yourself. You have those rights. Don't let them be taken away from you, and don't let anyone lose them on your watch. We must do our part.

... That's all I have to say on the matter, friends. When the world stops being quite so crazy, I hope we can all live in peace.

Two problems.
1. If you have a police force of 1000 and 5 of them are assholes.
If the other 995 don't speak up, you have a force of 1000 assholes.
2. The standard police reaction to being accused of being too violent.
    Increased violence.

Both have to be addressed.

I may not have been in the police force, but I was a correctional officer in a death row prison for a good three years before the stress got to me. I saw a lot of shit in there that I tried my damnedest to report. I always got ignored. Unfortunately, as it turns out, if you fire everyone who does something wrong you lose half of your force, even if the bad apples only made up a tenth of it. Because even if the officers were shitstains, they still spread out the workload.

When they're gone the extra work gets put on the good officers and the 'just here for the paycheck' officers. And when the paycheck officers have to do more work than they think is worth it they start leaving, putting more stress on the remaining force. And then some of the good officers have to leave because they just can't take it anymore. And it's impossible to get replacements because who the fuck wants to work in a prison?

The bad apples thrive in environments like these because as terrible as they are, they're still indisposable to the work force. Getting rid of them causes a domino effect that makes it worse on everyone. And it's easier to sweep things under the rug and put them on probation than it is to fire them and recycle new hires until someone is crazy enough to stay. And doesn't turn out like the guy they just got rid of.

You have my sympathy.

And yes, that's part of the problem as well.

I think the problem with society as a whole is the slow buildup of apathy.  Same with the outbreak "o it's just old people dying" or the protesters  " he must have done something to warrant the police to treat him in that way"  hopefully the protests shocked people into realizing this country has real problems.
