Been a while since I made a direct Journal regarding my Patreon and some things have changed!
First big change--
In December I crossed the goal to be writing monthly vignettes. I thought that these were fairly priced to patrons, and as an incentive for higher pledges, but over time I decided that they weren't fair to me. The draw of the vignette tier is what has expanded my earnings this year, but as a result it has increased my workload. The average monthly story, if it was a commission, I would be able to charge around $75 for. Some months it's shorter, others it's longer. Before the Vignette tier opened, I never made that on Patreon.
And now, with the vignettes I have made $135 for April, writing one of my longer stories. But I also had nine vignettes to write. $90 of that $135 was aimed squarely at extra work. Vignettes were valued in such a way that I didn't feel comfortable saying that they were paying for my monthly stories at all. At $10, my commission prices say that the top cap should be 666 words, not 1000, but I have placed that as my minimum length and 1K as the maximum. 1K words at my commission prices are valued at $15.
Therefore, the vignette tier has had its price raised to $15. Assuming the value of the vignettes themselves are $10, which is generous, this means that people in that tier will still be putting $5 towards my main writing projects. I will be valuing my labor more consistently, most importantly.
Second big change--
Contrary to my predictions that people would possibly drop their pledges or stay the same and forgo vignettes due to the changes to the tiers, I've actually gotten two new people jumping on board! This, in addition to the added $5 per vignettier has resulted in me meeting my next goal on Patreon! This means I will be having two big stories from Patreon monthly! I'll try to evenly space them every two weeks, and as a result the stories will be going up more consistently after two weeks of being on Patreon! In sticking with my resolve to be more fair about the price of my labor, I'll be far more mindful about how long my stories are getting here since I'll be doing two a month on top of the vignettes. With the current amount of money monthly I'm getting in, a cap of 4K words per story is fair.
Third big change--
This is important: If you are a vignettier you have to tell me what you want before the last week of the month, or else you might not get a vignette! Month after Month I've had some stragglers who won't tell me what they want until the very end of the month and that is stressful. Even if what you want is "Write whatever you want, I'll enjoy it uwu", be sure to tell me that!
TL; DR-- To receive a monthly Patreon Reward Vignette, you must pledge at the Vignettier level or higher on my patreon and have the payment go through. You must also tell me what you want before the last week of the month. Every two weeks a new Patreon full-length story will be released, shortening the preview period.
