Was really pleasantly surprised when I saw the Sonic movie today!I was really skeptical going in, as Detective Pikachu really didn't hit the mark for me. However, this movie got me alot more then I expected! A HUGE feature is the quality of the Mobian designs. There are multiple instances throughout the film, not just sonic, and they are ON POINT! The supporting cast were mroe than a little bland and forgetable, but it seems almost intentional, like the writers realized that the audience really inst there to see them, and instead put the spotlight on Sonic. Sonic himself was very well handled, pretty spot on! Maybe a smidgen too goofy at times, but not by much! Robotnick, in contrast, was for the most part well handled, but had a similar but more egregious problem than Sonic, suffering from Excessive goofiness. The jokes throughout the movie were about a 50/50 split for me, either decent or flat. Very few true stinkers, there were a few, but spaced out and quickly left in the dust. I left the theater genuinely interested in seeing more done with this, as I feel the writers actually understood how to write it and handle Sonic as a character!
TLDR - I was skeptical, but enjoyed it more than expected.
If your on the fence about seeing it, I would recommend it, theres a bit more than expected in it, and the strong points outweighed the weak, imo. If you didn't like it, let me know why here, I'd love to hear and discuss some other takes on it, as I know the weak points could be egregious is they were a focus.
