Just about fully recovered from the old mobo blowing out... well, it was from 2012, so it had a decent run. Figured that while I was about it, I'd upgrade the processor, RAM, soundcard, video card and so forth, so this is a full-smash upgrade. The one thing that's not back up yet is the second video monitor, which is still waiting on a replacement cable. It used to be the primary monitor, but has now been replaced by a Sony 72" TV.
This rig runs Hearts of Iron 4 blazingly fast now, even with some hefty mods installed! Why is that a big deal? Because HOI's game engine mainly runs through the CPU, not the GPU, and it doesn't multithread very well. I'll be running an Super Ethical Unicorn HOI campaign soon because of that improvement, but today I want to give the old girl a real test - Star Citizen, which just completed its update to version 3.8!
The game gets a lot of crap for its extensive/expensive development cycle (most of it rightfully so), but what there is of it so far is both gorgeous and CPU/GPU intensive. So let's see how she runs! Going live as soon as the update completes, at
