This year I participated on the Furry Blacklight 8, a furry convention which took place in Paris, during October 30th and November 2nd. It was a very amazing experience for me, to be able to know some furries in real life, without the proxies that our fursonas are. It was nice to talk with so many people and hug so many fursuiters, along with interact and dance with them, and meet some interesting people in the French furry community. Maybe it is because I am not that integrated, but I miss some of the French furries here in FA, and getting to know my local community was invaluable for me.
Point of view: the convention also changed my point of view in the furry fandom a bit. Before the convention, I mostly interacted with other furries through their fursonas, and using my own fursona as a "tunnel" to interact with them. In the con I was able to know the real people behind the fursonas before the sonas themselves. This made me come to the (obvious) conclusion that, more than just cute characters in my internet screen, furries were real people, of all ages, races, genders and interests, and we were joined by the common appreciation for anthropomorphic animals. This is something that I should bring during my time I am in the furry fandom, and it is an invaluable lesson for me. I would like to thank all the friends I made in the con for introducing me to the French community.
