Phase 1 was replacing heros with POC or females...which is continuing, that females are the bestest strongest fastest. (at the same time irl biological trans males are proving this wrong...and feminist are upsets)
Phase 2 is more insidious. An established weakened character must sacrifice himself to promote the nex gen of diverse characters who no ones knows or cares about....even better if main one is a mary sue.
(let's define mary sue....1. has a relationship with canon characters 2. typically younger...yet has skills far above her (their) experience level 3. great at everything and/or picks up skills at ease 3. its author/producer putting themselves as AWESOME character who can do anything while earning nothing to get those skills.)
so this is increasing trend... Logan. Into the spiderverse. The white male hero is not only flawed, but either dying or weirdly out of shape.
