Note to self.

On the subject of commissions, a new rule. If someone says they're paying for a commission of me, then let THEM dictate the terms/poses/actions of said commission. Pay for my own, dictate my own. Someone else pays, they choose.

It's just so much simpler and less drama/heartache filled that way. Anyone else who reads this, I recommend you do the same. There's nothing stopping the person whose paying for your commission (even if you've perfectly outlined things to the artist) from changing it/allowing it TO be changed out from under you when they feel like it. Note that it's usually not the artist who changes it either.

Or to include people you'd rather it didn't. Or to replace you for whatever reason. Retaining control on your character and what situations he/she/it finds themselves in is simpler, more benign, and MUCH lighter on the heartstrings than that kind of headache.

I'm not going to air my dirty laundry about why I'm saying all this. No names, no stories, no nothing. Just trust me when I tell you (and myself) that it's just simpler to be the payer/controller for things involving yourself.

Anyway it's their money, so really they whoever they are have greater say shouldn't they?

I'd normally agree...but something about it is that it's generally considered tactful to let someone KNOW you're going to change it...rather than finding out much later on.
