Marfin critic : dark phoenix, wonder park...

by
- X-men :dark phoenix https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Phoenix_(film)
Finishing the universe with a 12th movie and a retelling of the famous storyline from the comic and the poor ending it had in the previous timeline, the last movie of the franchie is ok. It's not great, I'll forget nearly all of it pretty soon, but I didn't had a bad time or thought I didn't got my money worth. The actors do a good job but the dialogs are a bit weak (and likely, the dubbing wasn't that good). They do try to explore a lot of the psychology of the characters, which I am glad for. 3,25 barks out of 5

- Wonder park : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonder_Park
This movie was a bit of surprise. The storyline is quite weak, but there is just so much imagination, sillyness and utter cuteness all around that I got past the forgettable and predictable plot and the underdevelopped and used characters. It's a movie for babyfurs like me in all it's aspects and I really enjoyed it. 4 barks out of 5

- Doom patrol : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_Patrol_(TV_series)
After being disappointed by the dark and gritty and uninspired Titans (as nearly everything in the DC movie universe), I was expecting Doom Patrol to be exactly the same since it is a spin-off. It does starts exactly like that, with boring characters, overly slow moments, stuff that doesn't seem to be here for anything but to look dark and the addition of Cyborg as Beastboy (I only know the Doom Patrol for the teen titans and young justice, so I may be missing some of the references) who doesn't fight the story as the outsider (even if they did work out some nice scenes along the way). But then it starts to go in the super wacky, totally silly and enjoyable take of the comics as far as I know and I just loved it. So many silly stories going on with characters I could have never imagined in such an universe. I can't say much about it but gods, such original ideas ! 3.75 barks out of 5

- Fairy tail : dragon cry https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairy_Tail:_Dragon_Cry
This movie is set right before the last season and makes references to a lot of things involving the previous one and the last scene hint to the next one. It doesn't bring anything new, really, and will not refered in later installments I'm sure, and it's pretty predictable. It's just a long episode. Nice, but nothing fancy. Always nice to see some more those characters. 3,5 barks out of 5

- Lost in space (netflix) : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_in_Space_(2018_TV_se...
This show suffers from two major flaws, one that can be a bit ignored and one that can't. The first one is the science in it is ridiculously stupid. So so many things that make no sense at all (gravity, time dilation, world building, or the fact colonists leaving Earth have not decided before hand of at least a few basic laws to be enforced in their new colony, like murder) that it is itching my brain when I see them, but it is bearable. The main problem is the villain, who is such a one dimensionnal character with little to no value overall as an antagonist and she drags the story down at many times. The serie outside of it is a bit weak, so 3 barks out of 5

- Ducktales (2017) 2nd season : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DuckTales_(2017_TV_series)
Continuing on their basis, they adapted a few famous stories from the comic, took Rockerduck the major bad guy from the History of Scrooge Macduck series which had his backstory taken by Glumgold and introduced him in a new way and worked out some of the storylines from the original show (including his link to Darkwing Duck). I'm enjoying it a lot but I can see why some wouldn't since it's a particular style. 4,25 barks out of 5

- Million ways to die in the west https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Million_Ways_to_Die_in_...
This utterly silly movie throw a lot of jokes all around and of all categories. It has a lot of potty humor, which get a bit tiring after a while and the movie is overly long (2 hours). But there is a lot of nice stuff (there is even quite a cameo from another movie) and some original ideas. 2.75 barks out of 5

The one line that killed Dark Phoenix for me "The woman are saving the men around here, shoud have called this X-Woman" Ugh, I did not need that woke-ass shit in my movie. It also didn't help that Raven looked like Captain Marvel when she said that line. (Hurl)

Wonder park, while I admit was a slightly better film then Uglydolls (that Trolls wannabe) it still suffered from bad characters, predictable plot, and unfunny lines and dialogue. Oh, and the less we talk about that shitty ass credits real, THE BETTER!

The x-woman joke was in the comic too, but it didn't fared much better in it.

I enjoyed wonderpark for the crazy park ideas but as I said and you pointed out, the rest is pretty meh

So, if its meh, why did it get a near perfect score of 4 out of 5 barks?

Because I love the imagination about the park. The concept, the sillyness, the designs. It appealed to me. I say so in the review. But for people who don't get on with that part, there is little to save in the movie. It's sadly a call of the heart.

No, I get ya, its creative in that aspect. I just feel like everything else would have made that score go down a bit.
