Sontails Game

I mentioned in my last journal that I was thinking about making a game where you play as Tails - basically trying to seduce Sonic.  Multiple routes, sort of a dating sim, a non-sexy option if you wanna go that route - maybe some chances to hook up with other male characters on the side...  That sort of thing.  The non-sexy route will probably still actually allow sex - just not require it or be focused on it.  Kinda like one of the routes of a game called My Very Own Lith - you can still have sex, but the story elements themselves aren't about sex and rarely, if ever, include it.  As far as art goes, I'll probably just render the models with different expressions and put that into the game, and render specific scenes as I go.

Anyway, I'm still getting a bit hung up on how the game should work, so I'm taking some feedback on this.  I've got so many ideas bouncing around and I really wanna nail down some key aspects before I get too deep into the project.  The general ideas as they are:


General Structure of the Game

1: Mostly choice-driven, chapter to chapter.  Pretty much a classic choose-your-adventure book.  The game won't generally focus on decisions made a while back, and pretty much the only things that matter are the choices themselves - not when you made them or in what context you made them.  Kind of like the general structure of a David Cage game, I suppose (not the same sort of writing).  Certain events unfold in a specific order and change in a certain pattern - that sort of thing.  Pretty self-explanatory - the next one requires a bit more info though, and to be honest, I'm leaning toward the second one.

2: A more open-ended style of gameplay with certain scripted events, and possibly a timer of some sort.  Nothing particularly tense, but just kind of there to encourage the player to stay focused on a certain path and keep things moving, rather than try to do everything at once - and to also add some immersion as far as not being able to screw around the whole time and still end up getting a good ending.  Of course, feel free to screw around anyway - maybe there will be some funny ending(s) for that, too!

The basic idea for number 2 is to have each day allow a certain number of actions and have those actions tied to certain stats - then have stat (and maybe item) requirements for certain paths and a lot of interactions to unlock.  Pair that general idea with more scripted days - like one of the days is Sonic's birthday or something.  It starts a scripted chain of events that lasts most (if not all) of the day, but the way it plays out depends on those same stats.  I guess you could compare this idea to a game like Babysitting Cream, or My Very Own Lith.  No timer in MVOL, but it's open-ended with the aforementioned type of scripted scenes.


As far as other game aspects go - like exactly how the stats work, the different endings, whether I make the timer a thing or not (add a sandbox mode?):

- Should I have other characters in the game as well, and how much should they interact with the main story?  I want to keep it mostly focused on Sonic and Tails, but I'm open to the idea of a possible love triangle ending or something.

- Just some various specifics about the stats.  My current basic idea is to have an overall alignment based mainly on two linear attraction values:  Romantic attraction and sexual attraction.  It's an abstract idea, of course, where having higher attraction doesn't necessarily mean literally "more attracted", but also represents how far that attraction has been taken, as well.  Most of the pathing will be based around this.  How you unlock new scenes will depend on overall alignment as well as other stats.  Other stats will include info pertaining to Sonic's mood (including how horny he is), Tails's skills/parameters, and a few various other things.

- All-around specifics of how to achieve this without bogging the game down too much or making it too bland.  One thing to note is that the story will still progress in the same basic direction as far as Tails's relationship with Sonic.  Obviously, Tails wouldn't suddenly become abusive or something like that - and some logic will be worked in to prevent choices from completely screwing up the relationship.  Tails will have an idea of what's apparently going too far, and Sonic's also pretty easy-going in general, anyway.  He's not gonna snub Tails because he's been behaving strangely lately..  Basically, I don't want to go to the trouble of writing a bunch of angst when that's not supposed to be the point of the game anyway, heh..

Heh, yeah!  I've decided to go with the more open-ended approach, though.  A lot of interactions will be scripted, building up to the final day, and I'll just allow the player to continue playing and let them repeat "non-scripted" (technically they're all scripted, but you know..) actions as much as they want.  As far as the "non-scripted" stuff goes, there will be multiple ways each one can end, based on current stats and your choices - and most of them will be repeatable.
