Oh...Crap

I fucked up bad like really Really BAD!

Basically I've accidentally corrupted the system of hundreds of members of the website I use most often (Puppy Paws Revival).

A Little Background
-----
ZhuXiao
ZhuXiao
began working on a huge game project called Vuki Hollow which he's already released a demo for but the full release was scheduled for Christmas this year.

Attempting to please fans with a huge about of fan pandering he changed tack to making it a group project allowing the best, brightest and most reliable members of said website including yours truly to work on it.

Everyone was really hyped about the game coming out and basically thanks to my efforts now it will never come to be.

I was tasked with making some simple load code using memory allocation. It's a really simple job that i've done hundreds of times over, only takes a second to type and it's basically just cut and paste a bunch of text.

I don't like doing memory allocation because it uses custom parameters instead of using the software's built in failsafe so if somebody gets the code wrong shit can really hit the fan.

However i was just doing index codes for it and so I wasn't really relying on my own code but somebody else's. All i had to do was copy and paste a list of indexes and then change a couple of digits.

You wouldn't think I could get that wrong but oh boy did i.

Not only did I copy the wrong list of indexes that was something completely unrelated from a different website about a different topic entirely and not even in the same syntax for the software i'm using and looked like a 4 line paragraph instead of a nice neat list of 4 words.

But i somehow in my infinite wisdom decided to edit the code into the correct syntax all the time not noticing that what i was typing was complete nonsense and made no sense for what i'm doing.

So now the filter that normally steps in and is like "Whoa whoa WHOA buddy! what the fuck did you just type there?" instead responds to me like "Err buddy? That doesn't seem right.".

However I'm dealing with memory allocation which brings up an error message anyway so in my further wisdom i click okay even after noticing that the error message is in red text and bold and surrounded by a yellow and black striped border which it normally isn't for this kind of thing. How the fuck did I just look at that and be like "yeah that's fine."?

So then in my further wisdom I don't debug it, i don't test it, i don't run it in a capsule where it can do no harm and I don't even run it on my computer first, i just send it off like "yeah it totally works trust me on this." instead of doing the sensible thing and trying it out first.

So then members start disappearing on Puppy Paws. No response from them for a whole 24 hours. Hundreds and hundreds of them.

Something went hella wrong.

So basically my flub reassigned all the formatting indexes for the file system on everyone's pc's essentially knocking them dead until you do a function reboot which is basically where you take the pc to a repair shop and he presses some magical combination of buttons and a menu comes up where he loads a backup state and everything works again.

Or at least it should but unfortunately thanks to a cock up by microsoft with their recent updates all previous files have a new allocated format index essentially allowing a pc mode today to reformat the entire hard-drive rather than just the current files so basically now when the guy presses the magic button config instead of it just loading a previous state it basically makes all their hardware inaccessible peripherals, hard-drive, monitor, printer, ports including any usb input devices like mouse and keyboard.

Oh just to top that off it basically opens up the gate on the internet whilst it's at it bypassing all 6 forms of identity coding including any design of firewall other than weird korean ones that were invented 3 years ago which luckily samsung phones come under that category. so even if you did recover your pc it will have a force fed index scrubbing worm virus from your isp who simply trying to monitor your connection to the internet. Unless you have Giffgaff for some reason, which makes me wonder how damn dodgy and insecure their service is.

So basically if you take it to a repair shop not only will most people be unable to get it working again unless they really know their shit, it will also corrupt all the other machines they are working on when they try to use rewritable disks to hardboot the machine and then reuse the disk for any other computer which is honest like 90% of what repair shops do so prepare to have a very angry repair man screaming at you for ruining their business.

Even IF you manage to get the thing working then you've lost all your files, everything that was currently on your computer and if you so happened to back up your files that day you not have a dangerously corrupted back up data storage device that will reindex any computer it comes into contact with.

And oh yaeh it gets worse. You know a lot of people store data in the cloud or have interconnected devices like your phone, tv, digibox, dvd player or games console. Well basically now those are corrupted and will corrupt any computer that downloads those files or does data transfer. The XBox One and certain random Nintendo Switches being particularly bad as they do it automatically without your consent so basically they're gone too.

It can for some reason also corrupt your facebook timeline somehow which makes it look like Max Headroom but people are still able to look at it without anything going wrong as long as they don't try to download the original file data of any images or video. Don't worry, that's stuff only hackers know how to do, you can safely download the images by conventional means if you can somehow find the download button under the messed up formatting.

TLDR
====
Basically i caused the apocalypse on Puppy Paws.

Karl and some other high ranking nerdy admins are working on a way to reverse it that should fix everything but all the files used for Vuki Hollow, the game everybody was looking forward to this year.

So I basically ruined Christmas for everybody, yay.
