Blocking Accounts Here

I've had too many people now not paying for commissions.  I won't be taking the cash up front route though, I'm sticking to the same way of paying upon completion so that if anything happens on either end, no one is out of pocket for any reason.

I will however just be cutting my losses instead and banning and blocking commissioners that don't pay.  No more excuses to deal with, no more second chances.

So if anyone has been trying to contact me and can't get through, then that's the reason.  I'd prefer not to be doing this but I'm probably out of pocket a few hundred dollars nearly over the months.

Anyway, rant over, I'll be trying to get through my backlog of work still, and a thank you to everyone that has been patient while I've been trying to catch up and dealing with far too much.

====EDIT====

Alrighty, to address some things here that have been mentioned and save copy pasting a lot of replies

The problem I have with payment up front is what can happen in real life.  I've personally had things crop up which have thrown things all out of whack (family stuff, internet troubles and the like) which can put things on hold.  Secondly on the commissioner's side, I've had some people contact me half way through saying an unexpected bill or some other cost cropped up and so that needs to be sorted.  Ane people that have commissioned me will probably know that in those cases I've always said that I can put the work on hold or cancel it if needed no problem.  Doing that is usually easier than dealing with paypal fees for refunds.

On the side of fees, with paypal taking a fixed rate and a percentage from every transaction, the more payments I get the more I lose in fees (which granted isn't as bad as not being paid at all :P)

And as for a patreon, I don't have anything to put in it sadly.  I've got no personal characters, no personal work and given the usual commission load, it would most likely end up being a second las lindas patreon page >.<

Up to you but I would have posted a list of people who stole the art so others can be warned about them.
Sorry to hear about this.

you could do a half up front half on completion

Half now, half on completion is the best way to go if you intend to not want all of the money up front to begin with. But this is wholely up to you.

I'm sorry to hear you've been stiffed by people. I agree with Gittons, you should post a public blacklist so people know who to avoid in the future.

how about just reserving the "payment upon completion" system for trusted commisioners whom had earned the privillege of preferential treatment instead of giving everyone the benefit of the doubt given the sheer amount of foul players you encounter?

One thing I know an artist does is they first complete the initial sketch, and once the commissioner is happy with the initial sketch then they pay the artist who then completes the pic.

If you don't want to ask for full payment up front at least ask for half.

I'm sorry to hear that.

And that's why I'm always fine with full payment up front, because I know artists have usually gotten screwed over before and there's no reason to give them any trouble.

I angered an artist that I commissioned a couple of drawings from some time back.  Not because I refused to pay, which I would never do, but because I insisted on paying up front.  I don't worry about how good the art turns out to be.  If I don't like the way the drawing turns out, I just won't commission that artist again.  You see, I don't commission an artist unless I've got the money to pay for it right then, except for my most recent commission which cost me $365.00.  https://inkbunny.net/s/1736287  It was the amount that stopped me from paying up front,  The artist is someone that I've commissioned several times in the past and she knew she could trust me to pay.

All that said, I can understand your reluctance to allow those people to request a commission when they refuse to pay for it.  You could always start a Patreon account and offer, say, four commissions per month (one a week) as part of the incentive at the highest level of support.  I know a few artists that do that on their Patreon.

ouch thats quite a chunk, but if people don't pay then of course this will happen

It annoys me that there are some people that never pay.  Isn't there like a "buyer beware" list of untrustworthy people?  It just sucks that they could go on to do it to another artist.

think Artist Beware has a list of fraudulent commissioners, quick search through their archives showed both artists and comms being reported to them.

Perhaps you should take payment once you have invested halfway thru.  Say about once you done inking and perhaps some simple coloring. Leaving the bulk work coloring, details and shading to do.

Should real life happen and you don't complete that work, or they decide not to pay after seeing the inks, you aren't out on a whole lot of work. And those inks could be recycled into other works after changing a few features.

I feel half and half is fair enough. Some protection for each side.

Caine has low prices and PayPal charge a transaction fee of 2.9% + $0.30, I don't think he needs to get hit by it twice…

Problem with this fandom is that it relies heavily on trust, and sadly it seems to be commodity which is dwindling at an alarming rate. =T
