You really need to get that fixed. Have you tried figuring out how to disable updates?

I thought I read if you are using "home" version it's almost impossible to disable updates.  Of course if you are rich enough to have two computers.  Use one offline for the work.  Move the finish stuff to the other which goes online to send to your friends.  But then not everyone can afford to have more than one machine.

That is simply not supposed to happen. It's time to gather all your files into one tree, including User which will have the desktop and downloads, and copy it all to a backup drive.

Backups are so important since Windows 10 came out.  I read a lot of folks are having problems with the new software.  Sure it was free, but I feel we are all test subject for MS.

If it was a test subject for something that looks like it would work, something that had already gotten it's shakedown cruses that wouldn't be too bad. But instead we're all the test subjects to see how much bad OS we'll put up with before we do something drastic, and that's bad. It's not like the older OS goes bad like fruit, either.

ah, the always annoying windows updates… plus, out of making a 32GB RAM; i7 or whatever the best CPU is… computer slow down as if it were f rom 1990.... it also mess with "tablet's drivers" cause windows think theirs are way better than the offcicial from the Tablet's devs… XD

what I do with the annoying updates. is download and manually install these heavy updates… cause windows update is crap managing some "heavy" updates…

It was something to do with the big october update or one of it's fast patches.

Seems they halted that roleout.

but i'd still copy that directory or moving the files in it for a while incase youve allready downloaded it and it's in que.

Oddly not all installs had this problem. no one knows why.

i am using fast loop updates and i did not experince a document apocilips that i've notest.
alltho i dont realy do much document wise.
and just about everything i do ends up in a subdirectory

Would be a pain if this happend to my downloads folder tho :p
(note no ones downloads folder has gone blank i'm just saying it woulda ben notisible to me)

I read this from Leo's page about the October download for Win 10

An update for Windows 10 called 1089 might have a problem and if you can you should back-up your stuff.
Here's an article explaining what is happening.

AOMEI Backupper is a free and useful backup program for home users.

Main site:

https://www.backup-utility.com/

Help files:

https://www.backup-utility.com/help/

I used it to make copies of a running (and good) install of Windows.  If an update screwed that up, and we just loaded our backup and was off and running again.

I would be sure to keep a copy of any Window machine on an external drive just in case an update screws things up.

Might be a good idea to have a separate backup of your working files, like mentioned by another user Zagroseckt.

I know an external drive costs money.  But can save your hours in reinstalling Windows.  Good luck dear.

Given the cost of a 1tb spin drive (not an ssd) external thing around 50-80$ it's worth it to keep a backup

I use FreeFileSync - it's an open source program, and I've used it for years - a great way of making sure you back up everything.  Lots of options but you would want to use the "Mirror" option to copy everything to a backup device.

These are great for folks who just remember to run it once a day (at least).  I use luckybackup on linux.
And I do it to 2 different hardware; a regular external disk drive, and a usb.
I can always bring the usb with me if I want to share something with a friend.

Luckybackup allows me to have several different backups.  I have one for the major update of my files.  And one that backup just my banking and passwords.  I hope everyone will start to see the advantage of a good backup system.

Have you tried setting all your web connections as metered connections, downloading Winaero Tweaker and using it's disable function, and/or deleting updates from task scheduler
