It feels like just yesterday and also a lifetime ago...

One year ago today I bought a used "Huion New 1060 Plus" graphics tablet and made my first attempt at digital art. That day I started trying to draw again, for the second time that year, the fourth time in the last five, probably the eighth time in a decade, and finally something clicked and I stuck with it. Over the last year I've consistently spent at least half an hour a day drawing, every day. (Well, every day up until the last couple months when I finally stopped feeling guilty about taking a day or two off!)

As the anniversary drew closer I occasionally thought about how to celebrate this arbitrary milestone. I had many plans: grand reflections, stories of success, mistakes made, lessons learnt. But now that I'm here, it doesn't seem appropriate. I don't want to say any of that.

All I want to say is thank you.

When I first started, I honestly didn't think I'd keep this up for even a month. I've tried and failed to keep drawing so many times in my life, but this time I kept at it.

I asked myself what made this time different. At first I thought it was because drawing digitally is easier. That's part of it, to be sure. Rulers, stabilizers, unlimited undo, copy/paste, layers, they all make it easier to pick yourself back up when you fall than with pencil or pen on paper.

But what I think really made this time different is you. Every watch, every fav, every comment you've made has left an impact on me. In times of strength your encouragement brings me happiness, and in times of weakness it keeps me going. You give me the ability to draw things I care about, and people to talk to about art uninhibited.

Making art is an integral part of my life now, and this community has made that happen.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. Here's to many more years together!

(Here's a secret for anyone still reading: you're particularly important to me, because you took the time and interest to read this journal and learn a little more about me. Thank you. <3 <3 <3)

You should be thanking yourself too, for sticking with it.

I have seen those (like myself) whom don't always stick with what they may strive to, but fail many times to keep at it, as needed.

And I've seen those whom gain a lot of praise from others on what they do, but still end up dropping their projects anyways too, usually for an unknown reason, as in none given to their fans and viewers whom want to see more.

Those dropped projects are usually unfinished stories, not touched in years, even when many still ask if they ever will be continued for years after the work on them have stopped.

But, I don't doubt the influence others may have had on you to keep you going when you felt you might quit. I know, a little encouragement can go a long way for some, mostly when one might be wondering if one is on the right track, and if anyone cares if you are or not. It can indeed be a nice thing to know at times. ^.^

As for tablets, I have had a Wacom Intuos Intuos4 - Medium for years, as shown here- amazon link

I use the amazon link to show it, for Wacom doesn't have it anymore.

I don't use it much, but it can be much better for things as ZBrush and drawing than a mouse. So I like it for that.

Be looking to get the Wacom Cintiq Pro 24" with a pro pen 2 in a few months. Should be real neat, and far more productive to have a tablet with a usable 23.6" 4K screen on it. ^.^

I sure hope it's worth the price. And hope I push myself more to use it, once I have it. Yeah, it be real nice if I did that. >.>

I remember a quote I seen once, "I don't know what a PC is, only that I want one better than everyone else has." If only the guy knew how high of a price one can pay for a top of the line PC. Some can go as high as $40 thousand easy. And much higher. If one was to get real fancy and get a D-Wave, that I think could set one back by around $15 million. Ouch! >.<

Hey, thanks, gonna keep on with it as long as it's still fun :D

I've been using a Wacom Intuos Pro Medium for probably around a year now which has been great aside from the occasional bad driver update. Can't imagine I will ever look at Cintiqs, though, personally I just can't stand drawing on the same screen as the image, I need a bit of disconnect between my hand and visuals to really get into it.

I could only hope to be so rich as to afford a d-wave with no practical applications someday x3

Keeping it fun, is the best way I think to go about it. ^.^

I kind of lost that over the years. I need to get back to that again.

Drivers updates, I know what a pain they can be at times. Why try to fix what already works?

Yeah, I know why updated are made. But damn, when something that dose work fine is not working anymore, due to new software, and not due to any hardware failure, frustration sets in quite easy.

I can see why you would not want to have your hands on what you are drawing. There is a great benefit to that. It's nice to have that work for you, and such tablets cost far less, as another great benefit to using them. Cheers! ^.^

But my early days of drawing is with the old pencil and paper. Not to say I was great with it, but using a regular screen-less tablet like one uses a mouse, never felt as natural to me as using pencil and paper.

I would like to try such a tablet to see if it feels as good to me as pencil and paper. The bad part is, a real good one, can feel like it cost you your soul to own, if you don't got a lot of cash laying around, as I don't

Oh' in the past I didn't care if I had lots of cash. But now I know the benefit of being rich(not to say that I am).

It can't buy happiness, but can help you to afford what you may need to be happy. So, yeah, I too would love to have stupid mad money. Not someday, but now. Like most people, not likely ever to though.

But one can dream, right? ^.^

I remember a quote I liked. "If one is going to have delusions, it's best to go for the most satisfying ones." At that, I'd agree. ^.^
