Illumination + Emotional Weight = New Pixar??

So...  first time writing a journal on Inkbunny, so let's talk about The Secret Life of Pets.

I... fucking... love... Gidget.

She's got a cute design, cute attitude; Jenny Slate does a bang-on job of capturing her adorable tone of voice.

What I think could really step up her cute factor — is an underwater scene...

...with the fluffy white Pomeranian in it.

Which is why (actually, how) I came up with this smashing-yet-heartbreaking scenario for not only her...

...but also for tabby cat character, Chloe. :)

Gentlemen, start your reading engines, and prepare to have your hearts torn apart!

Piece by piece! Artery by artery! Molecule by molecule!

Atom... by... atom~!!

If anyone remembers that scene in the original film where the Animal Control truck falls into the ocean and Max tries to free Duke from his cage as the truck sinks to the bottom, then he gives up and just looks at Duke while on his last breath, just about losing all hope, you'll be able to get what that scene captured for me.

If you really, really think about it, the scene captured perfectly feelings of hopelessness, as well as the characters' awareness of their impending doom. It is truly an emotional turning point for Illumination.

Prepare yourselves, folks, because this is where I get into the interesting bit: the bit that is being built up to in this entire journal! ;)

What if...

What if...

What if...

...Gidget and Chloe ended up in a similar predicament, but it went along like this?

Say, the pair aren't in an Animal Control truck crashing into the sea; they're, in actuality, in a different flooded area of isolation, preferrably one where both sides are being seperated by a sheet of transparent glass.

The flood overwhelms them and they each take in their only breaths they can and submerge. As they float helplessly underwater, they have no idea what to do in their situation. They both look around themselves; Chloe, given the fact she's a cat, can hardly swim, and Gidget has never felt more scared. What if they don't make it out alive?!

What does our feminine snowy Pomeranian do at a time like this?

She holds out her paw.

Chloe looks on at Gidget's gesture, and feeling as scared as her, holds out her own paw. As Gidget places hers on the sheet of glass, Chloe follows suit, giving off an illusion that both paws are touching each other.

'Tis a symbol... of friendship.

So here we are: Gidget and Chloe holding onto each other's paws and looking at each other, their eyes laced with fear. Gidget shows off the classic "puppy dog eyes" as she and Chloe have realized that the only thing they can do... is be together — before they sleep with the fishes.

They now know exactly how Max and Duke feel — how they felt the moment the truck crashed into the ocean. Gidget is so sorrow, she could almost cry... if her tears weren't being overwhelmed by the water.

Their paw pressing, in this case, is their way of bidding each other farewell, as they conclusively embrace their demise and despair. In case you ask, yes — I got that term from the Shadow the Hedgehog game.

It is not long before Gidget slowly moves her paw away from Chloe's as she feels her end is drawing closer, in spite of the fact that she has a few good minutes of air in her. Chloe shares her dread and anxiety.

And there you are — something I like to call "The Weight Before the Rescue".

It would be the Toy Story 3 of The Secret Life of Pets — and, if anything — the Avengers: Infinity War of Illumination.

A little more PG-13 than the comapny's traditional PG, but totally worth it, just to see those feelings of dread and hopelessness, and accepting certain death by drowning, pass through your feeble human minds.

In the film, Gidget makes friends with Albert Brooks' eagle character Tiberius. They seem to go great together, which is precisely why I advanced on this idea — Gidget needs to make sure she has more than one best friend, so that when things seem most dark, she'll have him/her to be together and hold paws with.

Chloe fits well into that category, and she and Gidget share the same gender: female. They barely interact with each other in the film, and their paw pressing shows that they're finally ready to admit defeat and spend their final moments to actually interact.

It's my way of making them realise that the one way to make even the darkest of situations (like being trapped underwater) better...

...is to be with the one you hold dear, be it one of your loved ones or best friends, until your last dying breath.

At this point, I won't be so surprised if fan art ends up being made of this, so if I may make a suggestion, call it "Embrace Your Demise and Despair" — gives it an extra emotional punch in the gut.

That's all from me, and I hope I was able to smash your hearts to pieces! ^^
