Kofi vs Patreon vs ???

TLDR; What's better? Patreon? Kofi? Something else?

I have a general question for any readers with experience. I've been considering setting up a Patreon/Kofi/Whatever type thing, as I mentioned in the last journal. I have a specific goal for doing this, and it isn't to make me money. Not to keep, anyway. It's to fund the illustrations that I prefer to send out along with my stories... And not just to fund the illustrations, but more importantly, the artists who make them! Being a freelance artist is hard, and it's harder if you're doing niche work, and yet we have some great artists in the TLK/toon space giving us their time and effort. I'd like to do what I can to see that be supported.

On average, I think each of my stories has taken about $150-200 to have illustrated, and generally about 40-60 work hours of effort on my part between writing and conceptualizing/finishing the illustrations and then posting everything. It's a lot of work, and it isn't cheap! As I approach more complicated ideas and scenes, it's just going to get moreso.

And it's worth it! But anything anyone can do to help keep this going... well, that's very much appreciated too! :)

So the whole question of this is: what do you think is the best platform to enable this sort of thing? Do you have experience with the ups and downs of any of them? Is there a platform out there I'm not aware of to consider?

I'm not expecting much of anything out of this, and if you'd rather donate directly to these artists, that's just as well from my perspective. But every single dollar towards allowing me to keep producing these illustrated stories would be SO great.

Thanks all for reading!

I think it is worthwhile having these ways for people to be financially supportive. All of them. Maybe not as many as possible, but the basics should all be there. Simple PayPal donations are an absolute must, Kofi and Patreon make things a lot easier for people who can afford subscription style support.

My way of doing this was always a normal donation.

Perhaps both are worth considering, for different things! Kofi for one-time donations, and Patreon for ongoing support with some benefits. I could see that!

For the people who can support with money, of course! I fully understand that's not everyone, and that's 100% fine. I'd hope everyone has the sense not to put themselves in a bad financial spot over smutty stories and art, no matter how nice!

I'm just trying to do my piece, and this seems like one way of going about it. :)
