I was approached by a certain user not too long ago begging for me to draw, sketch, whatever an entire comic series for him. He tried to break the general 'free art' begging by calling it a collaboration as he would be writing scripting, whatever you want to call it.
For absolutely no compensation on anyone whatsoever. He spat in the face of personal, professional, and hobby artists alike because they didn't want to do his project. He also threatens harassment if you do not give him an acceptable answer.
If you're approached by someone with a literal 'pick your reason' with a situation that says 'I'll ignore whatever you have to say because you're wrong and I'm a god' by someone with an empty gallery and absolutely zero respect for you as an artist, please do not accept and just block them.
He has no respect for anyone, and only wants to see his comic completed so he can ride off fame like every other freebie sniper. There's no offer to use your own characters, it's all just about him and his own story.

I was once asked if I wanted to join a project, years back, and asked if there was any sort of payment involved and not only get the get really mad at me, they blocked me and then made a huge journal about how it's "so shitty that ""popular artists"" can just charge what they want, who cares if it's for rent, you shouldn't be charging shit" etc. I was just like, damn, okay. I was going to do it until they flat out blocked me, it was only a curiosity lmao

The only folks I ask for art from are people I'm paying. Any gift art I get is purely a gift a friend asked me about, and then I'd like, say what I think I would enjoy and they go for it. That's it. Unless I'm approached, I never freebie snipe anyone because I know what it's like and just.

I only ask about art if I'm personally already waiting on it, and even then I leave up the artist to do their own thing because, like you said, I know how it feels. I'm a patient person, I don't mind waiting months for something. Life happens.
