technically it was bypassing their rooting software so you were getting stuff you were technically allowed to have but the isps didn't like it because they had to work as hard as they'd promised they would and if they didn't you could sue them.
that and the fact that without the routing software they couldn't track what you downloaded and so had to hazard a guess whether it was an illegal download based on the data packet size.
i used to play trickster online and that only had a torrent system to download the game and update patches. since it was korean it didn't get the microsoft official certificate so limewire blocked it after the update.
i used other providers and so the isp sent us a letter saying that they were gonna remove their service if i did it again so i had to stop playing that game.
i know people who played maple story and ragnarok online also had the same problem. practically bankrupted those companies overnight.
it could have been easily fixed by the phone companies just using better software but that would cost them money so they didn't. whereas people in america didn't have this problem because their isps had actually already done it.
to be honest it's not like they haven't tried to stay current.
it's easy when there's just relying on yourself. but they are so famous that everyone wants to stop them at every stage now. not like how the internet used to be. used to be that effort was rewarded. now unless you're on their payroll people trying to keep the new world order back.
