After much thinking the game is going to be set in a very Valhalor-like place with the same races and factions and such but not tied to the Albion plotline. Less like Trouskate, more like Eben.
Mechanics-wise it runs on a pure DSEG engine which very much resembles the old style DSEGs. Instead of being adventure based it works on a simple multiple choice system though each NPC has an entirely isolated sub-quest and the overall plot of the game is near non-existent other than just do side-quests to win. Each side-quest has 16 possible outcomes or there about which is the result of 2 codependent multiple choice questions with 4 outcomes for each i.e. answer A to question 1 and B to question 2 to make the result AB, etc where the results line up like AA, AB, AC, AD, BA, BB, BC, BD, CA, CB, CC, CD, DA, DB, DC, DD and each of them has a unique ending to the event.
Since no side quests depend on any other side-quests other than progressing the main story, the point of the game is to see every outcome rather than collect a certain item or change the state of the world a certain way, i.e. it's completion based. side-quests can only be done once per playthrough of the main story but it records what options you did across all playthroughs with the option to rewatch it in the menu after you've seen the outcome once. these will be labelled after the name of the option you chose so you know what not to click next time and gives you a rough idea what happens in the scene that resulted from your choice.
Each branch (the dialogue before and/or after a question) will have a lengthy scene of dialogue that can be skipped to the question part. Skipping will still unlock the scene in the menu on the first time so you don't have to watch it through if you don't want to, not even once. However, the game is about the journey and not the destination and though you might want to impress people by completing the game it really isn't that hard to do. People will be more interested in finding out what happens in the branches than your top score.
There are no scheduled events other than a difference between what side quests are available between weekdays and weekend and there is a Dream Mode when your character is asleep. However, Dream Mode will have its own side events rather than enabling you try other options for quests you've already done. You may have to ask the same NPC's in Dream Mode as well as in Waking Mode to get 2 different side quests and possibly even more depending on what stage of the game's main story you are in and whether you travel to alternative versions of the world like when your character is intoxicated or during certain state changes like being in a disguise for example.
Sammu might very well not be called Sammu in this game and other character's names may change but i will try to keep them as close to the original as possible, though I'd prefer them to be closer to the fan-canon versions of the characters rather than the Albion-canon ones. This is so that they don't clash with the other Sammu who is knocking around within the same universe. Remember? After all i could set this on another planet like i did with the Trouskate game rather than Valhalor itself. Therefore letting both exist without either ruining the other's canon.
Fans are already promising rude edits of the game but i seriously think you wont want to replicate the dialogue by rewriting the whole thing so I'm sharing my source material on PPP. i totally intend people to make fan versions of this game, i encourage it, and if i find anything i like the look of i might place it in the official version. As for adult content, I know it's very popular so I'm 50:50 right now about it. I don't think I'll get another opportunity to make a game like this and i want every decision to be a lasting one so i don't want to make any major decisions i'll have to go back on at some point. Whether that means normal or abnormal content and whether that means sexual or clean content is yet to be seen just where i draw the line on a variety of subject matter. However, no matter what i choose, it may be a long long time until i ever do it again so stop the average belly aching and type requests how you intent a full project to be done.
That's all for now. I'll have something more concrete after i work out the kinks and test a few ideas. simplicity isn't easy for me and only 2 questions during a side-quest means i'll have to make some interesting and irregular decisions to work around this design. What that means in terms of solid components such as individual characters and settings themselves may have to be reworked many times and even edited on the fly in some places, which is why i can't say more. I have to test what ideas work with the way this works before i know what's a good idea and what's a bad idea. Everything is dependent on everything in this tight restricted mechanic and i want this to be an adventure rather than reading a book and that makes everything very tricky indeed.
