My Favorite Raspberry Scene

A bit ago I asked you to share your favorite Raspberry scene so far. I know there's a lot of them, and it's sort of a weirder aspect to choose than a favorite chapter. But, maybe you have one that's like that.

My favorite Raspberry scene might surprise you, in a way. It's not surprising that it's between our two favorite tigers, but it's not one of the stronger moments between them; not one of the weaker ones either.

It's right in the middle, and it comes from Lonely Oak Chapter 092, "Emeral, M.D."

It took me a long time to go from Lonely Oak Part 2 to Part 3, there was quite a gap between the end of the second and start of the third. This was one of the chapters that was waiting in the wings, for quite a while.

This was before I actually realized (read: finally wrote out) the chapters leading up to it. I didn't quite know just how well it would fit, but it was meant to sere as an uplifting scene for you.

In the midst of all of Lyza's turbulent emotions, the RSBTs happening, the tension with Ritzer causing trouble, and right after the chapter where Ket had a doozy of a nightmare, this was meant to be a chapter where you really got a win out of the two.

The main win of the scene is just how much in harmony Emmy is when it comes to Ket in the scene. She comes in, and starts off apologizing because Ket has a glass full of ice; she knows, as you should, from previous chapters, that Ket isn't really fond of ice in his beverages.

But then when her mom defensively says he asked for it, she reconsiders the assumption she made. Just as he would, which is alluded to in the next chapter, she uses deductive reasoning to piece together the recent clues (the ice, his dream, his previously runny nose) and her intimate knowledge of him and his behavior, to come up with a diagnosis that's solely based on her "gut feelings."

Hence the allusion to the show, House, by the chapter's title.

Couple this with her being one step ahead of her incredulous mother, who is supposed to be a trained ER nurse, who doesn't really see the signs; because she lacks an intimate knowledge of Ket's mannerisms.

This also contrasts with the carnival in Lonely Oak Part 2, where Ket and Emmy are radically dissonant with each other, despite Emmy's attempts to make things better.

This scene sort of shows that, despite her concerns about "understanding love," in a way she inherently does without knowing. It's a unique situation that could reasonably play out this way, and she's spot on.

In the midst of all that's happened, and all that's to come, you at least know that, in that moment, our two tigers are in harmony for a time. And it feels good enough to fist-pump to, in spite of it meaning Ket is sick.

"An Emmy In Ket's Clothing," "Mrwt," and a few other chapters are definitely better in terms of how intense they are. But, this one, this scene, just felt so contently right in its placement and execution.

That is why it is my favorite scene, and I hope it had the same effect for you as I intended it to have.
