Oh right on!  Are you going to be doing this for the rest of the season then?  I hear we have a Fluttershy episode coming up, so that should be fun.

It's funny, but my favorite thing about Hearts and Hooves was the thing you hated--the disgustingly lovey couple.  I read the bit as meta-humor with the punchline being that pairing off ponies would make the show suck.  Sweetie Belle's "Oh, come on!" was the collective cry of romantically-inclined pony fans given voice as the series repeatedly teases them with tiny implied hints of romance before retreating back to the TV Y Friendzone what is Magic.  The little trolls like that made me giggle throughout.  Yes, my sense of humor is a little sadistic.

I do have one big issue with it, though.  Cheerilee went WAY too easy on the girls after coming out of the curse.  Chores?  Really?  That's it?  For drugging her and hooking her up with one of her platonic friends?  And Big Macintosh is Applebloom's older brother.  I can not begin to relate the horrors I would visit upon my younger siblings for interfering with my love life.  They would beg for death!

...You didn't like Showstoppers?  After Bridle Gossip and Suited for Success, Showstoppers is probably my favorite episode of the season.  By the end I had grown to really like the three little hellions.  The episode defined Scootaloo's fearless, loveable loser character for me. Also, the talent show was utterly and completely adorable even if it was 80's glam.  "Adorable" is not normally part of my criteria for liking an episode, but whatever.

On the other hand, a lot of the non-CMC voice work did seem to be phoned in.  The dialogue was odd.  The lesson did not exist.  It was like the entire budget for the show went into the Cutie Mark Crusaders' big act.  Huh.  Objectively it actually wasn't that good.  But so what?  I love it.  Call it a guilty pleasure.

I've been enjoying it so far, and the response has been fairly positive, so yeah, I'm going to try to keep up with it as much as I can.  Though it's been hard to concentrate on writing my review for A Friend in Deed because I can't stop listening to "Smile Smile Smile!"  XD

That is actually a very good point about Sweetie Belle (and admittedly, I did the same thing in my review of Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000).  It just seemed like everyone was making comments about the episode being anti-shipping, so I kinda wanted to avoid that angle.  But generally speaking, yeah, if something hurts my ears, I have a hard time getting passed that, even if I can understand what the intentions were.

I completely agree on them getting off too easy!  And also, yeah, they were way too casual about Big Macintosh and Applebloom being brother and sister.  Applebloom has a bit of an odd reaction at the end of the song, but after that, the idea of her brother getting mushy with her teacher doesn't seem to bother her _nearly_ as much as it realistically should.  I think that's another reason the love potion baby talk bothered me, because they could've cut that part down a bit and used some extra time to go into the consequences of the situation more.

As for Show Stoppers, take what I said above about things hurting my ears, and it goes double for children singing.  But I can also understand what they were going for, and I can see why some people would like it.  I'll admit this is entirely my personal bias, though, and I wouldn't want to take away anyone else's enjoyment of the episode.  Thankfully, the CMC's song in Hearts and Hooves Day was a big improvement, to say the least.
