It's that time of the year again: the very end of it! So time for another year in review, because I'm lame like that.
Like last year, I'm going to start with what I've done this year. I started that original comic I wanted to start, that being Thicker Than Water. I've done a handful of suggestions, opened a Patreon, started a mini-comic... that's a lot. And it's pretty cool, I think.
Really, the only thing I can comment on with what's changed artistically this year is more consistency. I feel like I've found a style that I like and have stuck to it. Which isn't really a bad thing. It more or less ties all my works together as sort of a unified thing. The drawback, though, is that things tend to look a little same-y. This is especially the case with suggestions, as I tend to just use a gray gradient as a background. That, combined with the consistent style, just makes it look like the same thing I just put out. So that needs work.
In last year's review, I brought up the closing of requests as a bad news thing. This year's bad news comes in the form of something I've stated before: I'm getting burnt out on drawing Sonic stuff. If you take a look at the last few Sonic things I've done, they've been of lesser quality art-wise, I feel. Because whenever I go to work on them, I just feel like I'm doing it wrong, or that I just don't want to actually do it. It might be because I set a stupidly high standard for myself when it comes to that, but I never actually hit that standard. But then again, I never have, and I never will... so...
However, let's look at more positive things that came from 2017: the goals I hit! I pretty much hit all of the goals I set for myself, in some fashion at least. The suggestions help me create the things I want to make, and my current mini-comic that I have going is something I've been wanting to make for a while, on top of Thicker Than Water, which I've been planning since All Fun and (Olympic) Games was in its first couple of pages. Speaking of that, starting that was another goal of mine, as previously stated. Also previously stated was the Patreon. No commissions, as I don't think I would enjoy doing those at all, so those will probably not be a thing. And the content never really stopped. Yeah there were lulls and that, but no breaks spanning multiple months at a time. I've stayed pretty active throughout 2017.
So that was 2017. A decent year for me, I think. Let's just hope I can continue the trend in 2018.
Mostly, the main goal I have is to do exactly that: continue on doing what I have been doing. I hope to finish Thicker Than Water within the year, and maybe start on Right There, Ride On!. I want to give it my all and do the best that I can. I just hope you guys can forgive me for moving away from this site a little bit as I stop making as much Sonic content...
But yeah. That's all I really have for this one. Not really as long as it was last year, but I have fewer goals, due to somewhat being okay with where I am as an artist at the moment. What are your guys' thoughts? What do you hope to achieve in the new year?
