Continuing with the "About my characters" series, it's time to talk about Melissa...
Origin: Back when I was younger, there was a certain female mouse that I had a Helga Pataki-esque 'relationship'. I didn't know why I behaved like that, but it stayed that way until I got older. Part of it could have been based on her name. I could see "Gadget" as being a passable nickname for a character, but not an actual name. Nowadays, she's competing with another female mouse for whom I like the most. Anyway, back to Melissa's origin...
As my feelings for Gadget turned more into a 'love' for her and based on my general like for cartoon mice, I created my own mousette based on Gadget in 2000, naming her Melissa. My thinking was that at the time I named her, I was inspired by her "honey" colored fur, which made me think of the latin term for honeybee. Come to think of it, Melissa's fur doesn't look very "honey colored" at all, it looks more like a light peach. However, that's my story and I'm sticking with it.
At first, Melissa's appearance was heavily inspired by Ms. Hackwrench, but I didn't want Melissa to be an exact copy of her, so I made Melissa part-vixen as well. Although, for a long time, the vixen-like qualities she possessed weren't visible. So, a couple years ago, I asked zenia to make a redesigned version of Melissa with some changes to give the appearance that she had some vixen in her (I.E.: more pointed ears, a fur-covered tail with a white brush tip, and white stockings on her legs).
Why I gave her a raichu form: Not much to say here, around the time I made Melissa, I was still heavily into Pokemon and since Raichu is an electric mouse, I figured that I should give Melissa an alternate form. The angelic form I gave her came shortly thereafter, I'm not 100% sure why I decided to give her this form though.
Why I decided to make Melissa a stripper: Back when I originally created Melissa, her story was that her entire family was killed when she was 16, except for her younger sister Abigail (who was inspired by yet another female mouse from the 1990's), and later on her littermates Brian and Brianna. As such, Melissa had to raise Abigail as her surrogate mother and while she received help, it only lasted until Melissa graduated from high school. Needing money, Melissa decided to start working at the Mouse Hole so she could raise support her sister and herself. In the "Life With Charlene" storyline, Melissa still raises Abigail as a surrogate mother, but both her and Abigail are a bit older when their parents are killed. In addition, Melissa, Abigail, Brian, and Brianna are the only kids their parents had. Pre-"Life With Charlene", their family was bigger. Later on, once Familia was founded, Melissa would leave her job at The Mouse Hole behind and run her own strip club with the help of Eva (which will be explained more in future episodes of the "Life With Charlene" series.
Why I decided to make Brian and Melissa have a relationship together (you know what I mean!): Three words... kitsuneyoukai and Firecat ! OK, there's a little bit more to it than those two. I figured that since Brian and Melissa were littermates and they only had each other as close family (plus Brianna and Abigail), they should have a closer-than-normal sibling relationship...although not quite to the same level as Charlene and I (Brian reserves that for Brianna).
Melissa's sexual preference: At the time that I created Melissa, she was exclusively straight (largely because I was exclusively interested in solo females or male/female pix at the time). However, as I got older, my tastes expanded. Furthermore, when Sapphire and I met, I wanted to make Melissa a part of our (still on-going) roleplay and she would develop a relationship with Sapphire that led to Melissa being our shared wife (Melissa is also married to one of Sapphire's brothers*). So, as a result, Melissa started to experiment more with other females, though she still prefers having sex with males. In the "Life With Charlene" storyline, Melissa decides that she wants to try having sexual relations with another female due to my relationship with Charlene. She knows that she'll never be able to separate the two of us, and she also knows that Charlene has had a crush on her, so she decides to give it a try.
Would I ever consider giving Melissa additional forms?: Possibly...but not Pokemon-based ones. One possibilty would be me giving her the ability to change into a full-fledged vixen, since she has enough vixen in her to allow this to happen. However, I haven't decided what kind of vixen I want to make her.
Will we get to see more of Melissa's siblings?: Eventually...I've already done a few stories featuring Brian and Brianna (with more planned in the future) and I will eventually get to stories involving Abigail (either as separate stories or as part of the "Life With Charlene" series). However, I don't know when any of these stories will come around though.
