I got back from MFF yesterday and had so much fun. My trip started out terribly, because I landed at Midway and made bad decisions trying to cross the city to my hotel, and then got kinda fucked up trying to find some friends in the Hyatt. Fortunately that changed pretty much immediately as I met up with my friends, and the experience was uplifting.
I wanted to end up in the Artists Alley at some point, but on Friday I arrived too late, and Saturday was pretty busy for me. I entered the lottery for Sunday but never got chosen. Nevertheless I did a bit of doodling every now and then, but it would've been cool to sell more stuff.
I'm in a group of people who love foreskins on Telegram, and they were talking about doing a trouserless party. I stepped up and hosted it in my room on Saturday, and it kind of kicked ass. I was kind of wary of it, because I'm typically not a party goer or anything, but also because it's America and I was expecting more cut guys. It's not like being circumcised would detract from the experience or we're unwelcome or anything. Rather, since it originated in a group about uncut dongs, I would've expected a minority of uncut guys to feel ogled and sort of "othered" by a bunch of admirers. Fortunately, some of the folks had connections and invited a bunch more and we had a good ratio. It was pretty chill and we all played furry Cards Against Humanity, and some folks let me tug their dongs. If I can, I might offer to host this sort of thing again at other cons, but I don't know how openly I'd advertise it.
There was more stuff going on but it's more secretive than that I guess.
Now that I'm back, I've got two weeks before I'm done with classes. I have only two pretty easy exams next week, but I've got a ton of work to do this week. Particularly, I have two projects that need completing, and I thought I could finish them up at different times. However, turns out that they're both due at the exact same time tomorrow. Oops. Stuff like this is going to keep me unproductive on commissions for a little while longer. After that, those of you who've commissioned me should start seeing updates once more.
Oh, and then I graduate. No idea what exactly I'm gonna do with a linguistics degree, because I don't want to stay in academia and do research. I might if I had a smoother ride, but I fucked up a lot before I started feeling really fulfilled by my education, and now I'm overdue to graduate by a year and a half. I feel like academia has overstayed its welcome in my life, at least for now. If I manage to land a job (and I should because it's not like I'm incompetent), it'll probably be unrelated to what exactly I studied. What I've got out of school is mainly formal logic without learning much of its applications in something like coding. It's really fascinating stuff, at least, but it's not super employable.
I like to think that I've learned to do pretty good art pretty fast, but I'm not sure I'd land some kind of creative job either. I have some aptitude, I'll admit, but I also lack experience (with just over one year under my belt), a good location (fuckin Connecticut), and a sizable portfolio (that's not furry porn). So it seems like I might not find a job immediately that would accept me and isn't abysmal.
I suppose that once I graduate, I'd certainly have more time to take commissions, but I doubt that's sustainable. I mean I doubt many people have read this far anyway, because I don't get that much attention yet. Still, throw money my way and I'll try to make you some good shit once my current wave of commissions is over with. Maybe if whatever job I get isn't totally draining, I'll try to make some comics. Furries love comics.
