Played the Sonic Forces demo, and personally, I like it.
The general complaints that I've seen about the game thus far are how straightforward and scripted the gameplay seems, being compared to Sonic Generations/Colors.
Now what I'll say is:
1.) Colors/Generations were pretty good games. At least in my opinion.
2.) Forces began development a bit after Generations was released, and Generations was met with a LOT of positive feedback. So it would make sense that SEGA would build a new Sonic game with a similar gameplay style.
Now, I'm not a huge fan of the Avatar stages but it's only the demo after all.
So far it feels a bit like a project they STARTED after Generations, but scrapped when Boom was put into production, and then took back up after Boom didn't do so well.
I'm still gonna buy the game, and then probably boycott the internet for a month so that I can skip the influx of criticism from YouTube/other meaningless sources. I hope you guys find something you like about the game once it's out and that you stay true to your own opinions, in lieu of what some internet critic tells you - after all, everybody is a critic. So why hold someone else's criticism over your own?
