The Eclipse

by
saw it with my own naked eyes, I live in the path of totality

it's pretty astounding to be alive in just the right time and just the right place to witness such a crazy cosmic event, and I'll sure remember this

I walked out to a gas station to get a better view. kids were across the street at the elementary school outside and watching, too. although I don't have glasses, I kept an eye on it through my phone's camera and my watch, and timed it just right so that I could watch totality at just the right time so I wouldn't blind myself (but my eyes are kinda sore as I type this)

when it happened, it's like everything stopped. all the cars in my line of sight stopped where they were, people stopped and stared, and I could feel a weird warmth around me similar to a muted bout of anxiety (which was probably just a weird feeling from a sudden temperature shift)

the kids yelled and cheered, and there were fireworks in the distance, pretty great. the street lights and shop signs all went on, too, and of course, the crickets went nuts. I lived near the edge of totality though, so it didn't last long, but it sure lasted long enough to be a part of my memory, this rare experience!

here's hoping I'll have eclipse glasses for the next one

July 2nd, 2019 is the next one... provided you're willing to travel to Chile or Argentina.  Otherwise the next eclipse over the US will be 2024.

Would have only been able to see a partial eclipse myself, if it wasn't for the fact that the entire sky was covered in storm clouds.  Really sucky how every single time there's some celestial event, my town is covered in a blanket of clouds :(

I have the eclipse glasses, got to see the peak where I lived. It was 87%. Would have been cooler to see the full eclipse, but still, was pretty cool! Made me feel small.

I live in the town where the totality was the longest in the US.  We experienced about 2 1/2 minutes of darkness.  It was such an amazing sight to behold!

It was only 82% here in Maryland but it was crazy seeing the normally round shadows go crescent shaped and it get dark in the middle of the day...then a damn thunderstorm go in the way.

If you have a dark spot in your eyesight that doesn't go away after a few days, you have permanent eye damage. Also, you might've ruined your phone's camera, it's just as sensitive to the sun's rays as your eyes D:

bit unlikely with my precautions

also, my (not a smart)phone's camera isn't really used, I won't exactly lose any sleep over that

Just letting you knows, don't think your eyes should be sore with proper protection :o

I got to enjoy to totoal eclipse outside my home today.   was wild.   birds went from flying around to chriping.  to sudden darkness, street lights turning on.  And crickets and cicadas going wild.

I didn't get to experience none of this. For in my town we had very low totality. If you had looked up to try and see the eclipse all you'll get to see is your eyes burning. I saw a small glimps of it at it's peak but that's about it, and my eyes wished i haden't.

I went to South Carolina for it but there were a lot of clouds there.  We only got to see about 10 seconds of totality before clouds blocked out the view.  Those ten seconds were worth it though.

98.7% here in northern Wyoming. It was pretty amazing.

Imagine when we can go to space and can see this sort of thing all the time. It's magical when it only happens once ever 500 years, but can you imagine seeing something crazy like that(and more things) On a nearly daily basis. :3
