Just about to complete another trip around the sun. August 9th is my birthday. I usually try not to make a big deal of my birthdays. For one thing, I feel more like someone half my actual age. For another, I've said for many years that "I no longer have birthdays, I just have parties". But... This is a big one. As much as I hate to admit it, I am turning 60 this year. Yeah, this doggy is nearly a fossil, compared to most of you.
I don't know what I'll be doing to actually celebrate it. Most likely just a quiet dinner out with my daughter, and not much of anyone else. I'd love to have my sister there, but there are... issues... that make that unlikely, even though I now only live two hours drive away from her. Even if my daughter and I drove to my sister's town, I am uncertain she could join us.
And on top of that, the total solar eclipse that is coming to my part of the world on August 21st has totally screwed up any chances of affordable vacation travel plans to the beach or whatever, at any time near my birthday. Every campground and hotel in the area is booked for weeks prior to the eclipse, as people prepare to be there for a once-in-a-century look at an eclipse that will last all of two minutes. *sigh*
