I didn't get in on the whole "pay extra to play a demo early" scam, but I've been playing as much as I can since launch, So far, it's been quite good, in my opinion.
The rumors of janky animations are mostly true, but it doesn't really matter? The writing's about the same as any recent Bioware game, voice acting is mostly up to par, and the gameplay is good times all the way down.
I can see a lot of people being thrown by their boldest move, though, namely switching their sci-fi genres. The first Mass Effect trilogy owed major debts to military sci-fi, but this one seems to be drawing more from the exploration genre, although it's certainly not light on the combat.
I'm far from done, but it seems to be a worthy entry in the series- and since it's not capping off a trilogy, odds are no braindead bigwigs from EA are going to swoop in and fuck the ending this time.
