One of my biggest pet peeves deals with tagging. Or rather, people who don't know how it works. It's pretty simple.
For example lets say you are tagging material affiliated with the SEGA franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog.
75% of the time the poster uses the following to tag:
sonic the hedgehog
The correct way to tag this material however is as follows:
sonic_the_hedgehog
In the first part, you would generate not one, but *THREE* tags because words separated by spaces are treated as separate words. By using the second tag, you would be tagging appropriately.
Lets try another example:
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
If you attempt this without underscores, you create a work with *SIX* different tags and the work it is affiliated with will not be easy to search for. It also gets around some services filter programs, causing the wrong people to see the material in question.
For example a service allows a user to block My Little Pony material. Material that is not tagged as My_Little_Pony will not be filtered because it is tagged as My, Little, and Pony.
If you didn't know this previously. I hope this has proven to be educational. I also would like you to post this so you can help educate others who are supposed to be more "web/tech-savvy" understand how to really be web/tech-savvy.
