After listening to Alkaemy's album, The Merlin Mystery, for quite awhile, I had become perplexed as to why the final track ended so abruptly. Using an audio program, however, I recently discovered the reason for its brief playing time. Several minutes into it, a hidden track begins to play, one that is not mentioned anywhere on the album. The whimsical words spoken in this track further aid the listener in solving the mystery of the Alchemist's spell, thus revealing Merlin's magical wand. Overall, this album is essential in unlocking the secrets to Merlin's mystery.
The Merlin Mystery was a children's book written by Jonathan Gunson in 1998. The purpose of this book was to challenge readers to solve the mystery of deciphering the pictures within it to cast a magic spell causing Merlin's wand to appear. Prizes were awarded to those who could solve the mystery. An album of the same title was produced by the band, Alkaemy, as a companion to the book. Although the quest to win the treasures by the solving the mystery ended years ago, the book and its companion album still exist for all to enjoy.
