Here's my (somewhat late) thoughts on the announcement of the new Quake game.
In Doom 2016, id gave the rights to develop the multiplayer to Certain Affinity, who is known for developing the multiplayer for Call of Duty and Halo. It was a strange choice.
Perhaps the reason they skimped out on Doom's multiplayer and outsourced it to another studio is because the multiplayer development team at id Software was working on Quake.
Also, if it's going to be class based, I'd hope to Satan that they'd offer some game modes that are more like that of Quake III or Quake Live, no bullshit.
Knowing id, they probably would, considering this is a multiplayer focused game developed by them, and not a third party.
One thing I'd like to see return is the glitchy trick-jumping from Quake III that wasn't present in Doom 2016 for whatever reason.
If they preserved it in RAGE, and didn't patch it in Quake Live, then there's no reason why it can't be present in a new game in the franchise, considering the gameplay was molded such glitches.
I have high hopes. Doom set the bar really high, albeit with its single player. I hope id can pull this off.
