...but so far most of my contact on this site via PM has been people trying to exploit me (do this drawing for free. do this drawing for exposure. lower your commission prices.)
Is this new and exclusive to Inkbunny? No, not at all. But it's the lion's share of contact here so far, whereas on FA and Tumblr I primarily get people asking if they can buy a commission.
It's kind of heartbreaking to be told my time and talents aren't worth anything. I already don't think I'm terrifically good - drawing is mostly a hobby that makes me happy and provides some extra money, which I typically put back into my artistic interests. I also have a queue of commissions I'm working through most of the time, so the time I spent drawing is shared between personal work and paid work. I don't have time to give away a comic's worth of art.
The crazy part? I actually kind of give away a ton of art. I do regular sketch request posts on FA and Tumblr, and most of them end up being more than just a sketch. I'm not looking for an award, but I'd like it if people respected me (and all artists) enough to not try and exploit us for our time and talent.
I still feel like this is a good community on a whole. People seem cool. Lots of very talented artists. I would like to spend more time posting here, but I don't have the patience or interest in wading through all these PMs. And why when you explain to someone 'I don't do this volume of work for free' do they feel the need to debate with you about it? "No, I'm not going to illustrate your 4 characters in full color for free" should be sufficient.
OK, rant over. Just had to get that out of my system. I'm locking comments because I imagine at least 1 of the people I've said 'no, i won't do all this work for nothing' to will try to post some hate. If you would like to discuss the matter constructively you can send a PM.
May the smut be with you,
[O..O]
