This may not quite be what you're asking about, but years ago, when I lost my inspiration and motivation, I decided that until I thought of something better, I would set my purpose in life as being reading SF and comics - if nothing else, it gave me a reason to go out and do what was necessary to keep body and soul together (so I could continue reading), plus it also exposed me to a lot of ideas to help me come up with something better to strive for.

More recently, I've tried summing up my current motivation and inspiration in comic form, "Rationality Matters", at http://www.datapacrat.com/sketches/Rational01ink.jpg and http://www.datapacrat.com/sketches/Rational02ink.jpg . The reasoning expressed therein gives me plenty of push to do all sorts of things, including, say, practicing what I'm good at so I can develop my skills, get better at it, and be able to accomplish more useful stuff. Drawing isn't my forte - but if it's yours, then keep on working at it and improving; you'll be surprised at what doors can open from just keeping on trying.

Unrelatedly, if you haven't already, you might find it worthwhile to read Scott McCloud's books, "Understanding Comics" and "Making Comics". (Depending on the particulars of your local jurisdiction's copyright law, you might find the torrent at https://www.demonoid.me/files/details/2182308/48870584/ useful.)

As for crappy art - I can be impressed by art for two entirely different reasons. One is technical skill - an artist who can make a picture look exactly the way that they want it to look deserves a bit of recognition for their ability to do so. The other is the idea the artist tries to get across with the picture; it's possible for even crudely-drawn stick figures to inspire some emotion. http://www.comicsalliance.com/2011/11/11/86-year-old-v... is a recent example. Best of all is when both come together, and the artist has the skill to make the viewer think and feel exactly what they want them to - from simple lust for an imaginary fox-woman to, well, you name it.
