I love people who don't know the difference between the opossums of the Americas and the possums of Australia.
"Wapathemwa" n. Algonquin source word. Means "white animal". Anglicised to "opossum".
They are didelphimorphs.
"Possum" is the name for the Australian diprotodonts. It is a bastardized version of "opossum" given to the animal by ignorant settlers because it somewhat resembled the animal from the New World.
