So... not sure anyone cares... but for those bored enough to read my random ramblings here, i have a functional computer again!
For the past 8 years or so i have been using and loving a liquid cooled PC. Ive learned a few things and one of them being that you get what you pay for.
my first one being an off the shelf collection of random water blocks and a pump / resivour filled with just straight distilled water. worked OK for about a year, then... well lets just say water plus electricity don't mix. (Shocking i know)
Fast forwards a few months and a few well spent hours of research and ordering of parts and for the most part my current system started taking shape. decided that i was not going to keep everything in the case so i went with an external cooler.
specs:
Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P motherboard
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T CPU running at 3.2Ghz
2x ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 Video cards
16Gb DDR3 ram
1x 1TB HDD (main / OS and apps)
1X 2TB HDD (media and random crap)
the CPU, graphics cards and ram were all hooked into the liquid cooling system.
cooling system:
Originally was a standard Koolance Exos v1.0 unit, upgraded to a copper radiator.
additional 120mm radiator after CPU before GPU1
also upgraded all quick connect fittings to low loss connectors.
All Koolance parts and coolant.
All has worked quite well for about 6 years. not a bad overall life for something that is on 24/7 and constantly has to pump coolant.
Sadly i sprung a new leak. this time i got lucky, was leaking out of a crack in the resivour. which happens to sit on my desk in the EXOS unit. so, no damage to the computer this time but the lovely issue of having to switch back over to air cooling due to lack of funds to replace the whole external cooler. they discontinued this model quite a while back and parts are not available anymore...
gotta start saving up for a new cooler... this thing is like a space heater when gaming now...
So, yeah... that about sums up all the excitement and fun that is my latest computer problems!
