Site going offline in 6hrs [Update: completed]

Hi everyone

We're expecting an extended downtime as we upgrade the database software to a new major version. We will be taking the system down in about 6 hours from the time this journal was posted.

The process could take a few hours. We'll advise via our Twitter account if we have news during the downtime of an expected return time.

Thanks

IB

I especially like the notice at the top of the website counting down the time.

Very professional, and far superior to other furry websites.

Wow, a downtime that's planned, with ample notice, and even a nifty countdown timer!  I bet you won't even have to spend a day in read-only mode afterward, either!  It's as if you really know what you're doing!

Competence for the win!  =)

How expensive is it to have both systems running in cross failover ghost mode before the option is triggered for which is the primary used, and which is the primary backup system?

Sort of like taking a RAID system with 5 1T drives, and using the real time error correction to change over to 5 2T drives one at a time? Im sure Ive seen a rebuild algorithm that couples a rebuild on access with rebuild on idle, proportionally available resources method.

Oh well, I know nothing on how things are implemented commercially etc, so I hope things continue for you given your apparent forward planning so far.

Thank you for the warning, and update. 8)

Maybe one day when we have a million online users and we want no down time. xD
